The Database Engineer I is responsible for installing, configuring, monitoring, performance tuning and troubleshooting databases currently supported at KORE, while ensuring high levels of data are available. This role is also responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity, availability and security of databases and their accompanying software. This includes but is not limited to concepts such as least privilege, vulnerabilities, backups and restores. This role is expected to be fulfilled with an eagerness to learn more and be humble work well with others. This requires a self-awareness and a continued growth in emotional intelligence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work with development teams on database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures
- Basic ability to monitor, performance tune, capacity plan and maintain mission critical enterprise database systems
- Basic configuration and maintenance of third-party software packages for scheduling, alerting, reporting and monitoring
- Implement upgrades, as required, guided by senior team members
- Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues
- Basic understanding of how to implement redundant systems for high availability
- Basic understanding of how to implement disaster recovery
- Basic understanding of data archiving and ensure effective protection and integrity of data through guidance and approved the design of senior team members
- Ability to allocate, monitor and optimize physical data storage for database systems
- Provide input to project planning and status reporting
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of departmental processes, procedures and standards by recognizing opportunities for improvement and initiating action to develop and implement changes
- Ability to maintain the inventory system as a source of truth for all databases and data systems at KORE to drive all automation to build, update and decommission systems requested by internal partners
- Basic ability to utilize automation to keep data and database systems protected with regular patching and other security remediation measures
- Basic ability to use Infrastructure as Code automation to also manage the operating systems that data and database systems are hosted on
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in related field or demonstrated equivalent experience
- 3+ years of hands on experience supporting and maintaining one or more BigQuery, Clickhouse, NoSQL, MySQL, Cassandra
- 2+ years of hands on development experience
- Experience with Database Replication and High Availability/Disaster Recovery Configuration
- Experience managing indexes
- Experience with database backups, restores and recovery models
- Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting databases
- Any database/data technology certifications
