Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) is currently recruiting new Board Members to join our board. We are looking for energetic, committed members to help us shape the organization. YESS' Board works in partnership with the President & Chief Executive Officer and the rest of the Executive Team to ensure effective governance of the organization. The Board contributes to the strategic direction and provides governance oversight, and the operations are led by the President & Chief Executive Officer.
The Organization:
Youth Empowerment & Support Services (YESS)' Youth Support Centres are a 24/7, single-point-of-access to immediate and low-barrier physical, mental, cultural, and emotional health supports and safe places to stay for youth aged 15-24 who are experiencing crisis in the Edmonton Metro Area. Youth Support Centres also host Monday to Friday Resource and Health Hubs with physical and mental health clinics and youth-supporting resources to ensure youth 15-24 get the help they need, when they need it, and where they need it—in their community.
Mission
Collaboratively build a network of care to ensure youth get the expert help they need, when they need it, and where they need it.
Vision
A more connected, holistic, and lower-barrier system for youth in crisis.
Values
Courage to be honest, vulnerable, and curious.
Compassion for ourselves and everyone to establish trust, empathy, and understanding.
Commitment to lead with intention, to make a meaningful difference and be accountable in all we do.
The Opportunity:
The Board actively works to identify and recruit Board members willing to contribute their professional experience, insights and lived experience to further the YESS' strategic objectives and board's governance capacity. As various terms come to an end, we are currently looking for strategic and engaged individuals, in the Greater Edmonton Area, with non-profit board governance experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Fundraising and Fund Development
- Finance/Accounting
- Social Service Programming
- Social Media/PR
- Government relations
Board members commit approximately six to ten hours per month, through attendance and active participation in board meetings every second month, an annual Board planning session, membership on a Board committee or working group, and engagement in external activities (events, fund development efforts and community outreach). Currently, meetings are held virtually. Board members are also expected to leverage their networks, connections, and resources to advance the work of the organization.
In a constantly changing environment, this is an exciting time for YESS as we launch our new 5-year Strategic Plan. It is also an opportunity for individuals interested in ensuring that youth in crisis receive the support they need to lend their expertise and experience.
