Join YW Calgary as a Mental Health and Addictions Counsellor supporting the women in our Transitional Housing program. This role delivers crisis intervention and counselling to the women in our program. You will also deliver therapeutic and prevention groups based on evidence-based practices. Your work will align with our YW Practice Framework which emphasizes trauma-informed care and intersectional feminism. This role focuses on addressing addictions and mental health issues to empower individuals to overcome challenges and achieve stability. This is a 0.8 role which includes an opportunity to facilitate additional groups in the Counselling department as an hourly Group Facilitator, working mostly evenings. Shifts are typically 3.5 hours.

This role is a regular permanent position with a guarantee of 30 hours per week (0.8FTE) Tuesday-Friday onsite at our Inglewood location. The secondary hourly Group facilitator role is eligible for onsite and virtual work.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Complete counselling intake, needs, and risk assessments
  • Provide individual and group counselling sessions in the areas of domestic violence, trauma, mental health, and substance use issues
  • Facilitate both preventative and treatment group programs that are aligned with the YW Practice Framework
  • Develop and evaluate treatment plans and therapeutic progress
  • Case consultation of complex cases with team and external service providers as needed
  • Maintain records in accordance with program policies, organizational standards, and the mission and philosophy of YW Calgary
  • Be responsive to client needs and provide safety planning and crisis support utilizing best practices related to homelessness, addiction, domestic violence, and mental health
  • Work collaboratively with service providers and be aware of new and existing resources in the community in Calgary in order to support client goals

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • A Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling with registration with a professional body
  • A clear Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search, and an Intervention Record Check
  • Knowledge of addiction, domestic violence and trauma
  • Experience with interventions such as CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and mind/body therapies
  • Ability to communicate, engage, and build therapeutic relationships with complex clients; commitment to empowering women using a strengths-based approach preferred
  • ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Competency in working with diverse populations (cultural diversity, marginalized groups, various ages and abilities, socio-economic backgrounds, LGBTQ2S+ community, trauma)
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary organization
