The Ottawa Black Bears (NLL) are looking for an energetic, creative and enthusiastic individual to perform as the mascot for game days, events, and community appearances.
This is a part-time casual role based on the organization's events and lacrosse calendar which will include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Ottawa Black Bears Games
- The selected applicant will be required to be available for all 9 Ottawa Black Bears home games, as well as preseason games and playoff games as necessary.
- Create and express a mascot personality in a non-speaking, yet animated role.
- Provide unforgettable experiences to fans by interacting with the crowd in a positive, engaging, and enthusiastic way.
- Engage in photo opportunities, seat visits, promotional elements, crowd prompts, and other fan-facing activities.
- Assist in managing and maintaining mascot costume, props and other items.
- Shifts will begin 3 hours before opening faceoff and end shortly following the end of the game.
- Work with team members to enhance the overall fan experience at Canadian Tire Centre.
Ottawa Black Bears Events
- Mascot may be asked to work additional Ottawa Black Bears events outside of home lacrosse games.
REQUIREMENTS
- 1+ years of mascot experience preferred
- Must be comfortable performing, in front of crowds and engaging with large groups of people.
- Ability to:
- Maintain a friendly, energetic, and approachable demeanour to connect with fans and create positive interactions.
- Communicate nonverbally, including the ability to convey emotions and enthusiasm through physical gestures and expressions.
- Withstand the conditions of performing in a costume with limited visibility and mobility for long periods of time.
- Adapt and improvise to a variety of different performance environments and situations.
- Show initiative and act with appropriate independence
- Collaborate with handler to maintain fan and mascot safety
- Responsible, reliable, and driven
- Bilingualism (English & French) is an asset but not required
- Theater, dance and/or gymnastics experience an asset
- Familiarity and knowledge of Lacrosse considered an asset
