POSITION: Executive Director

JOB TYPE: Full Time

LOCATION: Grande Prairie, Alberta

JOB SUMMARY:

The Agency is assisting The Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association in the recruitment of a passionate, dynamic team leader and business manager to serve as their Executive Director. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in capturing the pride, natural beauty, diverse history, and innovative spirit of the Grande Prairie region, and establishing it as a premier tourism destination.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, organized leader with a proven track record of developing strong relationships with key stakeholders. This includes fostering close partnerships with Travel Alberta, municipal councils, and individual tourism operators. The successful applicant will become a trusted ambassador for the Grande Prairie region, serving as the visible voice for the local tourism industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Providing strategic leadership and direction for the GPRTA, aligning the organization's goals and initiatives with the needs of the region
  • Knowledge of the region's tourism goals and a strong understanding the region, or a proven ability to assess and learn community strengths
  • Proactively researches and stays up-to-date on the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities within the regional tourism landscape
  • Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, industry partners, Indigenous and Multicultural communities, and community groups
  • Overseeing the day-to-day business operations of the GPRTA, ensuring efficient management of budgets, grants, and grant distribution
  • Developing and implementing innovative marketing and promotional strategies to raise the profile of Grande Prairie and area as a premier tourism destination
  • Advocating on behalf of the local tourism industry, amplifying the voice of operators and championing their interests
  • Fostering a positive, inclusive organizational culture that empowers the GPRTA team

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post secondary degree related to a subject such as Commerce, Business Management, Hospitality & Tourism, or Marketing, or at least 3-5 years equivalent business experience
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license issued by the Province of Alberta with clean abstract
  • Willingness and ability to undertake extended travel within the local Grande Prairie region and surrounding areas as part of regular job duties
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

  • Self-directed leader with strong interpersonal skills and ability to be an effective collaborator and innovator
  • Proven managerial skills in recruitment, training, and development of staff by providing both positive and constructive feedback in a team environment
  • Proven experience in budget preparation and administration

  • Experience with volunteer Board Governance and Government relations

  • Proven ability in developing, implementing, and leading significant marketing plans
