Job Summary: Reporting to the Print Supervisor, the Press Operator is responsible for producing all offset press projects in compliance with job specifications and in accordance with company quality standards and procedures. Coordinates workload schedule to meet customer time frame requirements while achieving optimum productivity. Performs daily/weekly/monthly maintenance on equipment to ensure optimum output. Works closely with other team members to exceed customer expectations.

Note: This is a casual on call part time position and hours will vary depending on operational needs and at the sole discretion of the company. The ideal candidate will be available to work on weekends when required.

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the offset presses (including the Heidelberg CX, XL, SM) in accordance with equipment operating procedures.
  • Interface with the Production Coordinators and/or Prepress Department to ensure a complete understanding of the order.
  • Perform all offset press operator functions as noted on the work order.
  • Operate offset presses to produce complete customized jobs.
  • Receive and output offset files for use in completion of the docket.
  • Responsible for operating, adjusting (ink and water level) and running the offset press.
  • Remove and clean plates and cylinder at end of press run.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting any press-related issues and to conduct setups.
  • Monitor for quality issues, and/or errors found during the printing process.
  • Handle inks to produce jobs.
  • Assist with routine operational maintenance and repairs.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on assigned offset press.
  • Maintain knowledge of safety requirements of job and equipment.
  • Operate any other equipment as needed to complete the work order.
  • Assist with job packaging as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Key Experience & Qualifications:

  • High school or GED equivalent.
  • Previous print knowledge/experience is an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in high speed copier operation.
  • Previous experience in operating an offset press is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills e.g. working well with others, communication, positive attitude.
  • Familiarity with handling offset files.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Able to apply written instructions to machine set-up and maintenance.
  • Good understanding of offset functions and bindery processes.
  • Meet or exceed minimum test results as designated by the hiring manager.

Working Conditions:

  • Standing for prolonged periods of time - up to 8 hours or more per day.
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, and twisting up to 50 lbs is required.
  • Work area may have fluorescent lighting and air conditioning.
  • Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
  • Exposure to ink and chemical fumes, and airborne particles such as paper dust and drying powder.
  • Appearance at all times must represent the company image.
  • Fast-paced environment subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity.
  • Additional hours may be required due to operational requirements.
