Are you an experienced scientist with a passion for microbes? DeNova, an innovative, Nova Scotia-based biotechnology company, is on a mission to develop regenerative food solutions that sustainably nourish both animals and humankind. Through the development and scaling of innovative fermentation technologies for the large-scale production of microbial protein, DeNova aims to commercialize a more responsible method of food production. We are seeking a passionate Senior Bioprocess Scientist to join our team and drive this mission forward.
Location: DeNova R&D headquarters in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
Key Responsibilities:
- Process Research & Development: Develop commercially viable bioprocesses focused on bacterial microbial fermentation. Guide experimental design, interpret results, and present findings to stakeholders.
- Experimentation and Analysis: Manage research projects at various fermentation scales. Oversee key lab operations, such as procurement and equipment maintenance.
- Technical Documentation: Prepare SOPs, research papers, and technical reports, ensuring accuracy and comprehensiveness.
- Team Collaboration and Mentorship: Guide and mentor members of the R&D and Pilot Plant teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
- Initiative: Proactively drive R&D projects, making informed decisions and maintaining a hands-on approach.
- Safety and Compliance: Prioritize safety in all activities, promoting high standards in laboratory records and training.
- Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Lead innovation in research methodologies and bioprocessing technologies. Stay updated on biotech developments to enhance R&D methodologies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- MSc or higher in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years industry experience in lab or industrial fermentation setting, focusing on microbiology, fermentation technology, and/or bioprocess engineering.
- Expertise in experimental design, microbiology, aseptic techniques, and data interpretation.
- Strong understanding of molecular biology principles.
- Strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years industry experience in lab or industrial fermentation setting, focusing on microbiology, fermentation technology, and/or bioprocess engineering.
- Deep understanding of molecular biology, biochemical, and bioengineering principles.
- Hands-on experience working with lab-scale benchtop fermenters and larger scale industrial fermenters.
- Expertise and know-how in methylotrophic bacterial fermentation.
- Innovative, forward-thinking mindset with strong ability to interpret and disseminate data.
Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 (actual annual pay determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors).
