BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

INVEST OTTAWA – GLOBAL EXPANSION

Reporting to the Director, Business Development, this role is primarily responsible for Business Development and engagement with the Cyber Security sector in the Ottawa region. You'll work to build strategic partnerships, and attract new companies to our region from the United States, as well as working to expand the presence of companies already in the region.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

• Develop and maintain relationships with your specific industry through outcalls and need assessments
• Manage customer care program and providing support and care to all clients
• Provide support to the Director of Business Development,
• Gather market intelligence and work with the Director to market the Ottawa region
• Plan and coordinate orientation programs for foreign investors
• Gains the confidence of the sector through regular contact with key executives and public officials who are active in the sector and ongoing professional training
• Assists on major initiatives to resolve current issues in the sector including development of conferences, advocacy strategies, and new Invest Ottawa initiatives
• Assists in development and execution of outgoing and incoming trade missions to promote trade and expansion opportunities
• Works with Marketing and Communications to shape messages related to focus sector and to coordinate efforts around events as required
• Coordinates and facilitates the development of solutions for industry and organizations to address challenges (labour force, real estate, financing, infrastructure etc…)
• Stays current on key and future business trends, issues, and opportunities and communicates information within Invest Ottawa
• Provides value-added services to meet the needs of the business community such as assisting with expansion and development proposals, and special projects
• Provide mentorship and task management for BD Team assistant(s) or co-op student
• Work closely with all level of government on incentive programs

WHAT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED/ GAINED THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER:

• Bachelor's degree in Economics, Marketing, Commerce or Business Administration or an equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in Business development, economic development and/or international business (working experiences in other economic development agencies, international trade and investment government agencies are desired)
• Proven ability to represent the City in a broad range of environments, to a wide group of stakeholders and clients
• Demonstrated knowledge of the continental and international business communities as well as an understanding of the small and medium and large business markets in Ottawa region
• An interest in and understanding of technology – and the role that Cyber Security plays
• Strong decision making capability rooted in supporting data analysis
• Understand government incentive programs and have good knowledge of comparable incentive programs worldwide
• Ability to establish priorities for own workload based upon need for immediate action, work objectives and schedules requiring independent judgment
• High independent contact with a wide variety of organizations and individuals in the public and private sector, either locally and/or internationally, is a key characteristic of this position. The actions of the incumbent reflect on the organization and the City of Ottawa.
• This position may require long and /or irregular hours including attendance at a number of external functions representing Invest Ottawa. Some travel may be required. Significant skill is required to work effectively across internal functional areas in situations where clear
parameters may not exist
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software
• Use of a vehicle and active and valid driver's license is a requirement

Work Expectations

Full time 37.5 hours per week with 10 days per month required in the office.
