We are seeking an HR Generalist to report to the CEO.

The HR Generalist will be responsible for a wide range of HR functions across multiple locations, including recruitment and working with recruiters, employee relations, performance management, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of HR best practices and the ability to effectively manage multiple HR initiatives in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience writing best practice processes tailored to a diverse workforce that includes highly educated and entry-level staff.

This role is based out of our Collingwood location at 20 Stewart Road. Candidates must be open to travel to our two other offices located in Nova Scotia as needed.

Start Date: Immediate

Hours of Work: This is a full-time position – 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday

Responsibilities for this position include:

Recruitment and Onboarding:

  • Oversee recruitment efforts, develop job descriptions, and work closely with external recruiters to attract top talent for both highly educated and entry-level positions
  • Develop and maintain relationships with recruitment agencies and educational institutions, including liaising with co-op program coordinators
  • Research and manage applicable employee subsidies and grants opportunities
  • Conduct new hire orientations and ensure a smooth onboarding process for new employees,
    • Send a welcome email with the first-day schedule, Employee Handbook, and all relevant documents
    • Coordinate setting up their workstation, email, HRIS account, and access to necessary systems. Provide a warm welcome, office tour, and team introductions
    • Conduct orientation sessions to familiarize new hires with the company's mission, values, culture, products, services, and industry
    • Arrange job-specific training, including shadowing, hands-on training, or online courses
    • Assign a mentor or buddy to guide new employees through their first few months
  • Ensure a tailored onboarding process for key roles to facilitate smooth integration and understanding of strategic objectives
  • Conduct regular check-ins of new hires during the first 30-60-90 days and gather feedback on the onboarding process

Employee Relations & Communication:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns, providing guidance on HR policies and procedures
  • Mediate and resolve employee relations issues in a fair and consistent manner
  • Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture, including organizing company events (e.g., holidays, work anniversaries, etc.)
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels across the organization
  • Promote diversity and inclusion initiatives to cultivate a more diverse workforce and an inclusive workplace culture

Performance Management:

  • Support the performance management process, including goal setting, performance reviews, and development plans
  • Assist managers in addressing performance issues and implementing improvement plans

HR Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR documentation

Training and Development:

  • Coordinate employee training and development programs, including compliance training and professional development initiatives
  • Assist in identifying training needs and creating development plans

Payroll, Compensation and Benefits:

  • Coordinate payroll processing utilizing the HRIS system
  • Assist in administering employee benefits programs, including health insurance, and leave policies
  • Conduct compensation benchmarking and analysis to ensure competitive pay practices

HR Projects:

  • Participate in HR projects and initiatives aimed at improving HR processes, employee engagement, and company culture
  • Research a method, using existing or new software, to track time off for all employees

Administrative Tasks:

  • Maintain updated employee records, schedule interviews, and prepare HR communications
  • Continuously evaluate and optimize HR processes by leveraging HR software and tools to drive data-informed decision-making

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

  • A bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in an HR Generalist or related role, preferably within the manufacturing industry
  • People-oriented and results-driven
  • Highly analytical with demonstrable experience with human resources metrics
  • Proficient in HR software (i.e., Humi) and tools to streamline HR processes and enhance data-driven decision-making
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Strong knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and manage relationships at all levels of the company
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to work on-site and travel to other business locations
  • Able to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Strong work ethic, diligence, commitment, and ability to juggle priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Candidates must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
