Our Vancouver, British Columbia office has an opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced tax professional to be an integral part of a dynamic company and an engaging finance team that includes a nine-member tax department. This position provides the opportunity to participate in a wide range of complex and challenging tax projects. The goal for our tax team is to enhance the Company's global tax landscape through cross-departmental partnership, digital and process efficiencies, and corporate tax savings. The Company has an established history of significant acquisitions and transactions that require strategic tax planning to optimize the organization's current and future tax landscape.
Your role serves as the lead over the Canadian tax team and reports to the Director of Tax. You will provide development and training to the Canadian tax team members, and you may be called on to provide tax subject matter training to other functions, such as finance or operations teams. In addition, you will support a wide array of projects that require technical research and application. Projects include process improvements, acquisition, integration, indirect taxes, strategic tax planning, cross-border compliance and risk management, and assisting tax teams from other tax jurisdictions. The ideal candidate should bring income tax accounting/compliance expertise and indirect tax exposure, as you will encounter a broad range of income and indirect tax matters.
We are looking for a team member who will bring an executive presence to our Canadian operations and be a business partner across the organization. This position is a key role that requires a professionally curious mindset and an affinity for creative problem-solving. Managing the team's workload is critical to our success as we manage ongoing tax activities and projects. Maintaining strong and open channels of communication within the tax team and with other departments is critical to our success, especially given the breadth of transactional activities the Company undertakes.
What You'll Do:
- Oversight of the Canadian corporate income tax function including:
- Monthly, quarterly, and annual income tax provisions
- Corporate tax returns
- Instalment payments
- Cross-border reporting compliance
- Oversight of the Canadian indirect tax function including:
- GST/PST/HST/QST reporting
- Property tax compliance and appeals
- Assist with financial budgets, forecasts, and cash tax projections
- Provide training, education, and continuous feedback to direct reports
- Coordinate income and indirect tax audits
- Maintain execution and documentation of internal control procedures/policies
- Collaboration with US, UK and Belgian teams on cross-border tax activities
- Research and review of impending and enacted legislative matters for tax/executive management
- Manage third-party advisors on compliance, advisory, and transaction engagements
- Travel to our production facilities and corporate offices may occur on occasion.
Education:
- CPA professional designation is required
- Completion of CPA Canada In-depth Tax Program
Who You Are:
- Minimum eight years of corporate income tax experience, of which at least four years must be industry experience. Solely public practice experience will be considered if the focus was on corporate income tax returns and provisions.
- Proficient in researching and interpreting the Income Tax Act, Regulations, and tax guidance through knowledge platforms and libraries.
- Broad-based Canadian commodity tax, property tax, payroll tax, non-resident withholding tax knowledge would be an asset.
- Experience operating under a SOX-governed internal controls environment is preferred.
Compensation package includes:
- Competitive base salary with annual bonus opportunity and the salary range is between 145,800-$164,000 depending on education and work experience.
