VodaSafe is an exciting young company working to transform the water rescue industry. We were awarded BC Tech's Startup of the Year at the Technology Impact Awards in 2022 as well as top finalist for Telus Stand With Owners competition last year. Our first product, AquaEye®, is a hand-held scanning sonar device for waterfront rescue that was launched in 2019 and has been adopted by search and rescue organizations across North America and around the globe. We are currently selling into 48 countries and want to provide more for our customers. We're now building out a software product and are looking for a mobile developer that can help us hit some critical milestones in development.
The Mobile Developer will be reporting to the Software Product Manager and will be responsible for the full mobile development lifecycle including: development, testing, release, and maintenance of the AquaEye Mobile Companion App (iOS and Android). They will be working closely with the hardware engineering team to ensure that the mobile application is compatible with the AquaEye hardware product and provides the best experience for our users.
Job responsibilities
- Develop a cross-platform mobile application that complements the AquaEye product using native languages (Kotlin, Swift)
- Participate in the entire development lifecycle from feasibility, build, deploy, test, release, and support
- Writes robust, scalable, and readable code that follow development best practices
- Follow best practices for code versioning, unit testing, and continuous integration
- Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of the mobile apps
- Identify and resolve usability and performance issues
- Creates technical documentation that describes workflows, reasoning behind decisions, and new processes introduced
- Manage app releases and deployments to Google Play Store and Apple App Store
- Create an automated CI/CD pipeline for mobile by leveraging existing release tools
- Ensure application is compatible with Play Store and App Store requirements
- Develop an application that can communicate effectively with the hardware application through BLE or wifi
- Define specs and requirements with the firmware engineers to ensure smooth hardware and software integration
required knowledge and experience
Requirements
Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in developing full-stack mobile applications for Android or iOS either natively or cross-platform
- Hands-on experience with hardware/software integration using BLE and wifi
- Proven work in working with DevOps best practices and CI/CD pipelines for mobile
- Ability to write clean, robust, and well-documented code as well as familiarity with software revision control systems (Git)
- Working in a fast-paced, changing and/or startup environments with small teams or independently
- Experience developing products with hardware interface, as well as cloud
- Experience developing products for a professional industry
Knowledge:
- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of skills and experience
- Mobile development best practices (code standards, branching, documentation)
- Knowledge of agile methodologies and project management tools (Jira)
- Mobile testing frameworks (unit, integration, and end-to-end)
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) is a plus
- Experience integrating with RESTful APIs is a plus
- Experience with identity management is a plus
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to present ideas to technical and non-technical team members
- Demonstrates an interest and enthusiasm in the product, industry and mission of our company
- Comfortable in and around open water
