INVEST OTTAWA – VENTURE DEVELOPMENT

Reporting to the Director, Venture Services, the Manager of Market Insights leads the Invest Ottawa Market Insight team and oversees the delivery of secondary research, competitive intelligence, and analysis to Invest Ottawa clients and internal teams. This actionable insight helps entrepreneurs, startups, scaleups, and other companies make informed, data-driven decisions. The Manager works directly with technology companies across various facets of growth, providing insights into industry trends, target markets, investment strategy, lead generation, customer personas, total rewards, SEO, and public relations. The Manager is accountable for seamless operations, quality delivery, client engagement, people management, team development, maintenance and evolution of market insight services, and impact measurement.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Business Management and Service Delivery
• Develops and oversees the implementation of an annual plan for the Market Insight team, including team goals, milestones, KPIs and metrics.
• Manages team workflow, including client intake and pipeline, triage process, resource deployment, and project allocation
• Oversees the scoping, eligibility and execution of market insight client requests
• Assesses clients' needs, as well as current and new potential Market Insight tools and databases, and makes recommendations on potential changes and enhancements for increased client impact
• Develops and/or enhances processes and procedures that enhance team operations, business delivery and client experience
• Manages market insight vendor relationships and contracts, and collaborates extensively with fellow members of the Invest Ottawa team
• Working closely with the Director and Marketing Team to establish and execute a Market Insight promotional strategy
• Manages the Market Insight dashboard, metrics, associated reporting, and client satisfaction surveys to assess the impact
• Strategically assess the tools/services to address identified gaps, with a particular focus on the needs of scaling firms and those in priority sectors.
People Management
• Leads and directs the Market Insights Team that is currently comprised of two analysts and one co-op student.
• Onboards and trains new team members on Market Insight tools, best practices, usage tactics, client management and business processes
• Provides mentorship through team meetings, one-on-one meetings and coaching
• Leads performance management and evolution of the team, including objective setting, managing progress against goals, professional development and growth plans, and employee assessments

WHAT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED/GAINED THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER:
• University degree in relevant education and experience such as business, economics, statistics, mathematics, communications, sociology, etc., or equivalent work experience.
• 5years in a related role: primary and/or secondary research, analysis, and delivery to stakeholders
• Skilled experience in program and project management including interacting with both internal and external stakeholders
• Experience in conducting market research and business environment analysis through previous work or academia
• Proven experience in people management, ensuring effective communication and guidance to address team dynamics and promoting a positive and inclusive team culture.
• Strong proficiency in using tools and databases
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Superior customer service and commitment to excellence
• Languages: English; French is considered a strong asset
