Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Nature and Scope

The Program Officer serves a key role in supporting the goals and outcomes of the Curriculum and Learning department. Those goals include promoting high-quality curriculum and learning materials, assistance with the writing and assembly of those materials, and maintaining strong relations with faculty, staff, and external contractors. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.

General Accountability

The Program Officer is accountable for carrying out project and program activities in the Curriculum & Learning Department. The incumbent is responsible for assisting in technology functions; uploading to Brightspace; editing of documents, both digital and paper-based; and administrative and project management functions.

This is a new role that will evolve over time, with the input of the incumbent. Initially, the Program Officer will be responsible for a variety of curriculum production and administrative functions that will support the projects and programs of the unit. The Program Officer will assist with smooth, coordinated, and efficient curriculum department operations and support other department members in curriculum, project, data collection, and reporting activities. This position provides additional support as required and includes the following accountabilities:

Specific Accountabilities

Curriculum Review, Organization, and Production

  • Collaborate with Curriculum and Learning team members, SIIT faculty, and external contractors
  • Upload curriculum to Brightspace and prepare the Brightspace environment for students
  • Track and report time by project or activity
  • Maintain records of curriculum activities
  • Follow curriculum development processes
  • Contribute to regular process and procedure reviews
  • Help organize curriculum reviews and maintain records of those reviews

Curriculum Editing

  • Edit curriculum and related documents
  • Use technologies to assist with editing activities and their organization
  • Help clients enhance their editing skills
  • Help to establish and consistently follow curriculum editing processes and procedures
  • Stay current with workflow and word processing technologies and practices
  • Maintain and promote the organization of curriculum materials, including version control

General Department Administration

  • Assist with various organizational activities in the department of Curriculum and Learning, including but not limited to, Microsoft Teams organization and maintenance, meeting scheduling, booking rooms, and ordering supplies
  • Assist with organization, communications, and dissemination of professional development activities and training materials
  • Assist with project management activities, including planning, monitoring, and reporting

Required Qualifications and Experience: Related post-secondary education coupled with a minimum of three years' document production and editing experience. Good understanding of administrative processes and procedures with a proven proficiency with a variety of software programs in the Microsoft Office Suite and document editing software. Knowledge of First Nations culture and organizations would be an asset. Experience working in post-secondary education is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
