Activate is a technology company known for creating Canada's first full-scale interactive gaming experience. We are experiencing significant expansion, and are looking to expand our IT team with the addition of a Software Developer that has a strong background in Web Development. The Web/Software Developer will work with a small team of software and computer engineers and programmers who design and maintain the core software (both front-end and back-end) behind an interactive human-scale gaming facility). This position has core responsibilities to manage the company website, develop game software, and other interactive applications. This will involve working directly with game programmers, graphic designers, and other key stakeholders in game development.

The Responsibilities:

Front-End/Web Development

• Design websites with a user-centered design following usability and user experience best practices
• Work closely with web designers to support and implement standard HTML and CSS
• Work closely with UX/UI designers to improve content and user experience
• Demonstrate proficiency developing web-based user interfaces that adhere to design systems and brand standards
• Research trends on design in web and mobile apps to create stronger brand awareness
• Accurately identify specific issues in the user experience and provide recommendations and solutions to improve design and functionality
• Bring mock-ups, or wireframes, from inception to production

Back-End Development

• Develop software (games, services and APIs) using a variety of development tools, including C++, VueJS, PHP, MySQL and Node.js·
• Develop effective and efficient solutions based on technical requirements produced through team collaboration
• Create maintainable and extensible web applications with clean, portable, self-documenting code

The Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or Certificate/Diploma in Software Development
• Willingness to work irregular hours if/when needed, including evenings and weekends
• Excellent problem solving and attention to detail
• Interactive websites and video game experience is an asset
• Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (SES, S3, Aurora etc.)
  
• Experience developing Android and/or iOS apps
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
• Proficiency in an assortment of technologies, including MySQL, VueJS, Node.JS, Docker, and Windows and/or Linux
• 5+ years of experience in software development
