OVERVIEW

Vertex is currently accepting applications for a Geotechnical Engineer. Successful candidate will work closely with our Vertex offices throughout Canada and will be responsible for the technical execution of geotechnical projects within Canada. The candidate will report to the Manager of Pipeline and Linear Assets Integrity.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering. Master's degree is considered an asset.
  • 5 to 10 years of professional work experience in the field of geotechnical engineering.
  • P.Eng. designation in good standing with APEGA.
  • Experience in the use of commercially available software packages such as Slope/W for the assessment of slope stability is required.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Microsoft products is required.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical support for pipeline and linear infrastructure geohazard projects related to new construction, assessment, mitigations, and monitoring. Projects could include, but are not limited to, roads, pipelines, powerlines, telecommunication towers, and oilsands operations.
  • Able to interpret and utilize aerial photographs, satellite imagery, and LiDAR data for the assessment of geohazards.
  • Conduct engineering assessments for slope instability. Have understanding on the concepts of landslide susceptibility, risk assessments, soil characteristics, factor of safety, and slip surfaces.
  • Participate in creating recommendations for geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring of geohazards.
  • Coordinate with drillers and geotechnical labs.
  • Travel for conducting site investigations in the field, when required.
  • Review, QA/QC, and assess lab results.
  • Technical report writing and client
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project success.
  • Foundation assessment and design is not required but considered an asset. Opportunities to get involved in residential and commercial projects.
  • Other duties as directed by your direct supervisor or manager.

LOCATION

  • This position is based in our Sherwood Park office.
  • Vertex allows a hybrid structure for working from home.
  • The position is permanent and Full-time (40hrs/wk)
