Option Excavating Inc. seeks a dedicated professional Heavy Equipment Off-Road/ Truck & Trailer Technicians/Mechanics—journeymen for our fully equipped shop in Spruce Grove, Alberta. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who enjoys being part of a team and can sometimes work unsupervised. You must have your own tools. You will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing equipment. Must have experience with Cat, John Deere and Komatsu Preferably. You will diagnose and repair heavy-duty equipment, off-road machinery, and trucks/trailers and help us deliver top-notch infrastructure solutions.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic and electrical components
  • Ability to diagnose the source of any faults or malfunctions and perform needed repairs
  • Performing work as noted on the work order and repairing or replacing defective parts, components, or systems with accuracy and efficiency
  • Maintenance, repair, and service of large off-road industrial equipment (dozers, loaders, excavators, packers, etc.).
  • Maintenance, repair, and service of smaller equipment when required - vehicles, generators, etc.
  • Diagnose and repair company assets, maintain repair order documentation and assist other maintenance personnel when required
  • Document repair operations and time tracking in accordance with company policies
  • Ensure work area in the shop and service trucks are kept clean, organized, and maintained properly so they are ready for use at all times.
  • Perform services on machines while completing overhauls
  • Removal of components for rebuilding ( final drives, engines, transmissions, pumps, etc. )
  • Competency to complete detailed stories for work orders
  • Clear communication skills are essential
  • Computer experience necessary to complete work orders
  • Confidence to work alone and alongside other mechanics
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers licence and own transportation (public transport is limited at our location)
  • Promote and adhere to the company's safety program and encourage all employees to adopt safety as a culture.

Position Requirements & Qualifications

  • Journeyman ticket or equivalent experience in both off-road and truck/trailer will be considered an asset
  • 5 years of experience working on larger industrial heavy equipment in the earthworks industry.
  • Class 1 license(not required but considered an asset)
  • MUST be willing to work evenings and weekends and be out of town when required during busy periods
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry objects for full-day shifts.
  • Follow all safety and job procedures.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.
  • Possess the ability to operate required equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Time management skills.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 50 lbs for 50 feet is required.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (e.g., eye protection, safety boots, etc.) will be required.
  • Can adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Makes suggestions for improvement.
  • Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current.
