At Abstract Developments, we are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Construction Foreman to join our team. As a Construction Foreman, working closely with the Superintendent and the field staff at the site, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the construction activities of our multifamily (condo and townhome) development projects. Your role will be crucial in ensuring the timely completion of projects while maintaining high-quality standards and adhering to safety regulations.

As a Construction Foreman at Abstract Developments, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including residential wood framing, concrete form work, finishing, and general carpentry. You will lead and manage a team of construction workers, providing guidance and supervision to ensure an efficient and effective workflow.

To excel in this role, you will have previous experience as a construction foreman or a similar position. You should also possess in-depth knowledge of construction methods, techniques, and materials. Strong leadership skills, excellent organizational abilities, and effective communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Plan and coordinate construction activities, including scheduling, resource allocation, and task delegation to meet project timelines.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Monitor construction progress, identify potential issues, and proactively implement solutions to ensure project milestones are achieved.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and manage a team of construction workers, including carpenters, masons, electricians, and other tradespeople.
  • Provide clear instructions, guidance, and supervision to the construction team to ensure efficient and effective workflow.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure that construction work adheres to building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify any defects or deviations from project specifications and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintain a high level of quality control, monitoring workmanship and materials used in construction.

Safety Compliance:

  • Promote and enforce a culture of safety on construction sites, ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations and protocols.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, provide safety training to workers, and implement safety measures to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • Investigate and report any safety incidents, near misses, or hazards promptly, and take appropriate corrective actions.

Communication and Reporting:

  • Maintain effective communication channels with project stakeholders, including project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Provide regular progress updates, construction reports, and any relevant documentation to project managers and senior management.
  • Address any concerns, issues, or disputes that may arise during construction, facilitating effective resolution and maintaining positive relationships.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a construction foreman or similar role in residential wood framing, concrete form work, finishing, or general carpentry
  • In-depth knowledge of construction methods, techniques, and materials
  • Computer literacy for field/office communication - Outlook, Word, Excel, MS Project, Procore, Jonas, or Blue Beam are considered an asset
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and blueprints
  • Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills to address construction challenges and find effective solutions
  • Physically capable of heavy lifting as per WorkSafe BC regulations, climbing multiple flights of stairs and/or ladders, kneeling, crouching, and bending throughout the day
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to build trust with trades, suppliers, customers, and clients in order to promote the Abstract brand
