ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Shoreline Power Group is a fully integrated Joint Venture of Aecon, United and Atkins Realis located in Kincardine, Ontario. Shoreline Power Group is the centerpiece of the Major Component Replacement (MCR) program which replaces the main components of 6 reactors at the Bruce Power Nuclear Generating Station. The scope of work includes the removal and replacement of calandria tubes, pressure tubes, and feeders as well as construction management and trade labor. This project is part of Bruce Power's Life Extension Program, which will allow Bruce Power's CANDU units to continue to operate safely through to 2064.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

This opportunity for an Environmental Co-op Student is 12 months in duration. Reporting to the Environmental Specialist, the Environmental Coop Student will be responsible for supporting the Environmental, Health and Safety team and their tasks.

This opportunity will begin in September 2024 for a period of 12 months

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct environmental monitoring and inspections of areas to verify compliance with federal and provincial environmental regulations, project environmental management plans and Project Agreements.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of environmental mitigation measures, best management practices and corrective actions installed or implemented by construction and provide feedback to the Environment Specialist & EHS/Hu Team.
  • Provide multi-project environmental technical support for the Environmental Program at all project sites.
  • Assist in development and roll-out of Environmental & EHS/Hu communications across work sites, construction staff, contractors, and management teams.
  • Document and report on environmental conditions, observations, and non-compliances during site walkdowns and environmental incidents to Environmental Management Team and support development of corrective actions.
  • Assist in generating and maintaining reports, dashboards, and other documentation.
  • Support the development of environmental documents such as standard operating procedures, work instructions and dashboards.
  • Assist in any start up for new work areas or projects, including providing all the necessary templates and documentation that will be required for reporting and program maintenance purposes.
  • Support Internal & External Environnemental / EHS audits.
  • Support Human Performance program activities.
  • Proactively identify improvements for team processes and tools.
  • Other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • 3rd or 4th year post-secondary Environmental science or related program.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and Outlook) and Power BI.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills are required.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work effectively with minimal direction.
  • Effective organizational skills to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a high-pressure work environment.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Due to the nature of work conducted by Shoreline, mandated nuclear export controls requirements must be met for employment.
  • Our background check process includes a full security check and clearance process as well as reference checks. The security clearance process includes a comprehensive list of previous residences, employment, education, and other pertinent information. Those with a valid Bruce Power security clearance are strongly preferred.
