The Opportunity:

We're looking for a Director, Data Governance and Information Management to join our Data Management & Business Intelligence team.

Reporting to the VP, Data & Analytics, the Director, Data Governance and Information Management manages all organization-wide data governance and information management activities and will have accountability for improving the quality and managing the protection of sensitive data and information assets in enabling the data & analytics ambition for Aviso Wealth. As a member of the Data Analytics Team, this role will provide strategic input and recommendations to evolve the overarching Aviso Data Governance and Information Management Program, including enterprise-wide data principles to enable robust data quality, information management and reduce overall data risk. Additionally, this role will work closely with individual business data owners to support the implementation of data management practices and data governance across all of Aviso's business lines and shared services.

What your day looks like:

  • Lead and collaborate: Create a culture where data is managed as a valuable corporate asset and establishing strong, collaborative working relationships with Business, Technology Solutions Partners, and other Shared Services
  • Partner: Manage metadata and data flows that enable data usage and impact analysis for critical business decision-making, regulatory reporting, and operational uses
  • Ensure Data Quality and Integrity: Establish and maintain high standards for data accuracy, consistency, and reliability
  • Enhance Data Security and Privacy: Protect data from unauthorized access, breaches, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
  • Promote Data Accessibility and Usability: Facilitate the efficient retrieval, usage, and sharing of data across the organization
  • Support Strategic Decision-Making: Enable data-driven insights and analytics to guide organizational strategy and operations
  • Define Clear Roles and Responsibilities: Assign accountability for data management tasks and processes within the organization

Requirements

Your experience and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Accounting, or Computer Science or related field
  • 10 years minimum work experience in analytics field in the Digital Wealth or Wealth Management industry, and 5+ years in a leadership role, and experience leading distributed teams across multiple time zones, using sync and async communication with expert knowledge of DCAM and the DMBOK, and EDM Council (or equivalent) membership / exposure
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders focusing on establishing and ensuring adherence to an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards, and practices, both at the department and Business and Functional areas level, to achieve the required level of consistency, quality, and protection to meet overall business needs
  • Highly skilled in the data management tooling (e.g., metadata, data lineage, etc.) across AWS, Azure, and or Informatica experience is helpful (e.g., data catalog, business glossary, data policy, and data quality), including experience managing or implementing a Data Governance Framework at an Enterprise-Wide level
  • Knowledge of data related regulatory requirements and emerging trends and issues, PIPEDA, CASL, Bill C-27: Digital Charter Implementation Act, Consumer Privacy Protection Act (“CPPA”) and the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (“AIDA”), Bill C-11: Digital Charter Implementation Act, 2020 (“Bill C-11”), Quebec's Bill 64 implications to Data Governance and Records Information Management
  • Proficiency in the architecture of a modern data stack (ingestion, orchestration, storage, transformation, visualization, etc.)
  • Highly skilled of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection
  • Experienced in developing and implementing records information management policies and procedures
  • Hands-on experience implementing, expansion, and using one or more leading data quality software products at scale like Atlan, Collibra, Informatica, Alation, Atacama, Talend, etc.
  • Demonstrated consulting skills, with change management concepts and strategies, including communication, culture change and performance measurement
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced performance-driven environment, dealing with ambiguity and change
  • Demonstrated willingness to roll-up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity
  • Fluent communication skills in English are required and bilingual skills in French are an asset

Salary

This position is posted with an expected salary range of $140,000 - $175,000 CAD annually. Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate and the requirements of the position.
