Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.

As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.

The project will strengthen Ontario's economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the project?

  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job Description

General:

  • Manage, design, develop, create and maintain small-scale through to large-scale construction projects in a safe, timely and sustainable manner
  • Conduct on site investigations and analyze data (maps, reports, tests, drawings and other)
  • Carry out technical and feasibility studies and draw up blueprints that satisfy technical specifications
  • Assess potential risks, materials and costs
  • Provide advice and resolve creatively any emerging problems/deficiencies
  • Liaise with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Monitor progress and compile reports in project status.
  • Know budget and purchase equipment/materials.
  • Comply with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety, environment and deliver technical files and other technical documentation as required.

Specific:

  • Coordinating all TBM related works inside stations and portals:

List of tasks more specific to the TBM job, but not limited to:

  • Supervise the TBM stations crews preparing the stations to be ready for receiving TBM and supervise associated logistics.
  • Supervise the TBM mining crews, together with shift engineers, for all the works to be done by TBM crew when crossing a station, from breakthrough to preparing for relaunch.
  • Supervise the TBM stations crews working in the stations already crossed, in the back of TBMs, for cleaning and dismantling/moving break in, break out, crossing or logistic structures associated to TBM.
  • Ensure all the work procedures are ready and briefed to the crews before starting the task, ensure these procedures are followed,
  • Produce Lookahead schedules and coordinate all works interface with other teams (Civil, SEM, survey, plant etc.).
  • Ensure all procurements and subcontracts are anticipated/ready in time for the works to be done, coordinate with subcontractors performing the tasks under your supervision.
  • Anticipate the methods for the team to perform the tasks,
  • Ensure all temporary works related to TBM station crossing works are designed according to methods, procedures, available and installed safely and on time, approved before use.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Civil or Mining Engineering
  • 5+ years experience in tunnel engineering on multi-cultural projects
  • Experience as site/shift engineer with practical knowledge on how the tasks have to be done.
  • Experience with temporary works and methods, preparation/installation
  • Project management and supervision skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skill
