JOB SUMMARY:
The Site Medical Leader works with the Home (facility) Site Leader and or Director of Care in a co-leadership role to ensure effective delivery of comprehensive Resident-centered care, address facility-specific issues, and to support quality and safety initiatives. The Site Medical Leader keeps up with current knowledge and practice in medicine relevant to seniors and Long-Term Care. Works collaboratively with the Site Leader and or Director of Care on projects and initiatives. Liaise with the Site Leader and Director of Care and serves as member on the Medical Advisory Committee and other committees as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Medical Leader is responsible for:
• Advocating for the provision of high quality and safe Resident care in the Home (facility)
• Development of and ensuring physician participation in site service delivery plans
• Dealing with concerns from Residents regarding the quality of medical/clinical care and ensuring appropriate records are maintained and obtainable
• Coordinating physician response in the event of a major incidence or outbreak
• Providing advice on infection prevention and control issues and approve specific infection control policies
• Promoting a culture of Resident safety in the Home (facility)
• Participating in the accreditation process
• Developing reviewing and revising medical and clinical policies/procedures based on best practice
• Supporting quality improvement planning and the development of quality improvement indicators for potential areas of concern
• Participate in the planning of Resident care by ensuring the appropriateness of services and treatments
• Perform attending physician duties
• Adhering to quality-of-care standards in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team
MEDICAL STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Developing and sustaining an effective on-site medical management structure. Ensuring 24/7 medical coverage for Residents
• Working with site medical staff to maintain harmonious relationships
• Collaborate with attending physicians when concerns are raised about his/her Resident's care
• Ensuring a process is in place for addressing medical staff who are noncompliant with policies, procedures, and bylaws
• Ensuring all members of medical staff are aware of responsibilities as attending physicians.
• Monitoring quality of care provided by attending physicians
• Developing and communicating expectations of attending physicians e.g., bylaws, rules and regulations, facility policies, etc.
• Reviewing pharmacist medication management reports
• Review prescribing by attending physicians through medication safety/pharmacy reviews
• Assisting in investigation of critical incidents, and addressing concerns related to medical care
• Chairs and or participates in committees, examples include but are not limited to Medical Advisory Committee, Home Quality Committee, and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
• Practicing MD
• A member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in good standing

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The Site Medical Leader's position requires a significant amount of standing and sitting. In an average day the employee spends 1 to 2 hours standing or walking. Must be able to manage stressful work situations with dexterity.

Physical: Strain on shoulder, neck and back, cuts/scrapes
Environmental: Draught, dust exposure, working alone situation.
Chemical: Equipment cleaners
Biological: Exposure to communicable diseases i.e., colds, influenza, GI, Covid-19

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• May be required to sit for a long period of time.
• Normal speech, vision, hearing is necessary
• Must be physically able to lift to 25 lbs.
• Sitting 70%, Standing 5%, Walking 20%

• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
• Must be able to work in many varied stressful situations
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Must have a Criminal Records check completed.
