Position Summary

The Public Relations Specialist will be responsible for the excellent and effective implementation of public relations campaigns including crafting media releases and pitches, developing PR strategies and proposals, coordinating with media outlets, and managing public events to promote our brand. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in PR and media relations, excellent communication skills, and a passion for creating and maintaining strong relationships with existing and new media outlets across Canada on behalf of Graf-Martin.

Hours: Full-time; must be willing and available to work evenings and weekends on occasion.

Place of Work: Graf-Martin office in Elmira Ontario, with the potential for hybrid work. Some North American travel would be expected.

Key Accountabilities

Strategy Support

  • Assisting in proposal development alongside the Head of PR & Communications

  • Assisting in the development and execution of PR strategies and campaigns to enhance the company's public image and brand awareness.

  • Monitor industry trends and stay updated on the latest PR best practices.

Project Management Support

  • Ensuring all project set-up is complete, with the Office Manager (Harvest, Asana, Spaces, Drive, Nutshell, etc.).

  • Being the primary owner and point-person for PR-related software

  • Attending client-requested, regularly scheduled campaign calls and reporting back to the broader team.

Publicity Support

  • Help arrange and secure faith and mainstream media coverage for campaigns across various platforms (broadcast, radio, print, online, etc.)

  • Facilitate in writing creative pitches and story ideas to secure various media coverage for clients and exclusive opportunities.

  • Help organize and manage events like press junkets, screenings, and other promotional opportunities.

  • Track and analyze the performance of PR campaigns and media coverage.

  • Working alongside the Digital Marketing Lead to ensure all press materials are optimized for SEO.

  • Day-to-day media monitoring for GM and all GM clients.

  • Press release distribution through PR platforms (i.e. Nutshell, CCNs, and/or paid newswires).

  • Creating media kits on Drive (for media access).

  • Co-hosting and hosting international and domestic clients for media tours, with support from the Head of PR & Communications.

  • Hosting or securing hosts for film screenings with support from the PR team.

  • Managing itineraries and traveling as needed for key client activations.

Influencer Outreach

  • Creating content and editing e-blasts when engaging special audiences (ex: Canadian Church Leader list).

  • Monitoring influencer outreach metrics and including these in appropriate reports.

  • Working alongside the Digital Marketing Lead to determine effective opportunities (paid & organic) for influencer engagement across public relations campaigns.

  • Scheduling, planning and shipping media and influencer samples as needed (ex: Prize packs, books for The Table with Ellen).

Business Development Support

  • Actively participating in business development opportunities and brainstorming creative ways to network and promote GM's public relations team and services on digital channels and at in-person events to grow our client portfolio.

  • Creating valuable reports that demonstrate the ROI and success of past client's work, complete with valuable endorsements and testimonials from clients to support case study creation.

Required Qualifications

Experience and Skills:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma is required, preferably in Communications, PR, or a marketing-related field.

  • Previous experience in marketing, communications, or public relations.

  • Prior work or volunteer experience with complex organizations (non-profit organization or ministry experience is preferred).

  • Proven ability to provide high-quality support to business operations and providing value to GM clients.

  • Flexible, detailed and solutions focused with the ability to meet multiple concurrent deadlines.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, as well as individually.

  • Desire to learn and grow within the role.

  • Strong communicator, both written and verbal.

  • Proficient using standard office software and online tools.

  • French language competency is an asset (but not essential) for interactions with Canadian media and clients.
