PREVENTION SERVICES WORKER

One (1) Full-Time Position

Location: Grassy Narrows

General Description:

The Prevention Services Worker (PSW) is a full-time permanent program position. The PSW shall provide primary prevention services to the First Nation community, families, and children. Outcomes of service provision will ensure the well-being of children, reduce incidences of abuse and neglect, support and strengthen family units, and reduce the number of children requiring alternative placements or admission to care by increasing family and community awareness, establishing community education programs, developing partnerships and coordinating services with community service providers and other local resources. The PSW reports to the Senior Prevention Worker (SPW) and in some cases to the Director of Services (DOS) in all aspects of job functions.

Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of Prevention Services including history, philosophy, practice, and guiding principles;
  • Thorough knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act and Regulations;
  • Knowledge of Customary Care and the practice of Prevention and Family Preservation, service development, social casework management, First Nation communities and social structures, Anishinaabe family systems, as well as local customs and traditions;
  • Working knowledge of the administrative structure and operations of Kitapinoonjiiminaanik Family Services including policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols;
  • Working knowledge of family dynamics, child development, mental health, addictions, crisis intervention, parenting skills, life skills, budget strategies, and family support systems;
  • Proven ability to encourage or provide prevention programs that are primary, secondary, and tertiary with traditional or conventional services;
  • Ability to empower families to become their own best advocates;
  • Ability to consult with and take direction from the Senior Prevention Worker and Director of Service;
  • Ability to establish and maintain purposeful relationships with children and families, colleagues, superiors, community staff, and all relevant others within KFS and the community;
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive case recordings, case notes, reports, and statistical information within timelines as set out by standard;
  • Excellent communication, time management, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills;
  • Must be committed to ensure the highest level of confidentiality at all times;
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver's License and be willing to travel;
  • Must provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Driver's Abstract; and
  • Ability to speak Ojibway is preferred and a definite asset.
