Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis, the Financial Analyst is responsible for the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in the Research program and to provide monthly analysis, reconciliation and reporting of hospital accounts. The role also supports month end close procedures, annual processes of the external audit and the preparation of timely account reconciliations to ensure financial data integrity.

Accountabilities:

  • Preparation of account and sub-ledger reconciliations to ensure quality control and accuracy of accounting records
  • Support in the coordination of the monthly, quarterly and year-end financial close procedures, including posting of sub-ledgers and journal entry preparation combined with analysis of results
  • Preparation of month end reporting information
  • Preparation of balance sheet reconciliations ensuring completeness, data integrity and accuracy
  • Support the preparation of monthly and ad-hoc financial statements, analysis of results and variances
  • Preparation of documentation to invoice Research studies and forward for invoice preparation to the Accounts Receivable team
  • Preparation of documentation for payments to Principal Investigators (PI) and other external parties, and forward for payment processing to the Accounts Payable team
  • Provide support for research projects by ensuring all expenses are tracked and recorded on a timely basis
  • Assist with year-end audit requirements
  • Support functional leads and PIs in all research financial review processes
  • Provide recommendations on internal control enhancements as related to financial transactions, records preparation and account reconciliations
  • Maintain the financial system dictionaries and reports to ensure the integrity of the financial information reported to end users
  • General tasks throughout the month including data input, petty cash management, communications, etc.
  • Assistance with ad hoc projects related to the Research and Finance programs as required
Qualifications
  • Minimum of three years experience in accounting
  • Undergraduate diploma in finance or a related field
  • Enrolment in a professional accounting designation program preferred
  • Highly motivated, customer focused team player
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge of full suite of Microsoft office programs (including Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow through financial transactions
  • Strong aptitude for analysis of data with the ability to identify trends and recommend actions to enable decision making

  • Exercise care and due diligence in handling confidential patient information
  • Ability to work as a team player within a dynamic environment
  • Meditech system experience is an asset
  • Required to travel between Osler sites
