The Opportunity

Pomerleau is looking for a Regional Health & Safety Manager to join our team and be instrumental in the promoting of a positive Health & Safety culture throughout Pomerleau's Western operations.
Under the supervision of the Vice President, Health & Safety and with excellent support and guidance from the Regional Director, as Regional Health & Safety Manager, you will be tasked with the planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating of the activities of the Health and Safety department for the multiple project sites throughout British Columbia. In collaboration with the site management team, you will assist in ensuring compliance and maintenance of excellence within the Safety Program. What YOU Will Do

  • Put your knowledge of Pomerleau's Health and Safety program to work through advisement, mentorship and assistance with project teams to ensure companywide compliance;
  • Manage a team of Health & Safety Advisors and support Human Resources with recruitment and evaluation of the team;
  • Demonstrate leadership in Health & Safety on the project. Effectively apply the requirements of the project specific safety standards to promote Pomerleau's H&S standards, applicable OH&S Acts, Regulations and Codes with all employees and trade partners on the project;
  • Review and analyze the effectiveness of current safety programs, identifying areas for improvement and recommending necessary updates to policies and procedures;
  • Effectively communicate the goals and objectives of the Safety Management System, while continuously driving improvements in safety practices;
  • Ensure periodic safety audits are being conducted by the Site Health & Safety Coordinators;
  • Jump right in from project start-up by assisting with the development of construction plans, kick-off meetings and hazard identification;
  • Keep the project team informed of new policies. Provide the Site Health and Safety Advisor and site management with any new or adjusted documents to be used and ensure that they are implemented;
  • Take pride in monitoring, auditing and support to ensure Project Safety Plan compliance while always looking for opportunities to improve safety performance;
  • Provide effective forecasting of Health & Safety personnel to ensure the necessary resources are available for Pomerleau projects;
  • Participate in various Health and Safety meetings on site (site committee, client meetings, Toolbox talks, etc.);
  • Act as a representative of Pomerleau with national, state and county regulatory bodies;
  • Effectively compile project Health and Safety statistics monthly;
  • Provide onsite and in-person coverage for Health and Safety Coordinator vacations and/or new project start-ups that require health and safety coordination.

What YOU Will Bring

  • 10+ years' experience in the construction industry and health and safety management on construction projects (civil/infrastructure experience on medium to large projects is preferred!);
  • Excellent knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations;
  • A University Degree or College Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety and/or Risk Management or a combination of education and industry experience;
  • NCSO designation or equivalent;
  • Experience with Certificate of Recognition (COR) and Safety Group (IHSA);
  • Ability to manage and lead a team effectively ensuring that resources are being allocated to the necessary projects;
  • A dynamic and creative approach with a flair for being proactive and applying good judgement techniques in all situations;
  • Strong mentorship capabilities;
  • Strong communications skills, both verbal and written;
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with MS Office Suite and online reporting software;
  • The ability and willingness to work throughout Vancouver and Vancouver Island. This position will require regular travel between job sites throughout the region.

The expected salary range for this opportunity is $110,000 - $150,000. Please note that salaries may vary depending on the candidate's experience and geographical location. Listed compensation is exclusive of bonus and in addition to our extensive employee benefits program which is listed above. Availability of certain benefits may vary based on the specific job role.
