Job Summary: A Pilot Global Launch Manager, is responsible for leading and managing a cross-functional manufacturing plant team and may also be responsible for a larger-scale team consisting of multiple manufacturing plants, impact on future business, or significant global coordination. This individual is responsible for managing a program plant team providing customer support as required, leading program-related communications, and taking full ownership of related activities performed by multi-disciplined cross functional teams with respect to plant launch activities. Primary objectives are to lead a cross-functional plant team to ensure we deliver a robust manufacturing process, quality products, on time delivery, and meet or exceed customer expectations.

A Pilot Global Launch Manager, may also be responsible for leading, developing, and managing other sub-functions and members within the Program Management Organization, such as Change Management, Cost Engineering, Program Planning & Capability Development, Total Delivered Cost / VAVE, and Business Processes.

A Pilot Global Launch Manager, primary objectives are in accordance with the mission of the Program Management Organization and the overall success of Plant Operations, where Program Management execution is to be viewed as a source of competitive advantage by all stakeholders including internal & external customers, employees & shareholders, which will ensure a long term sustainable advantage through rigorous, process-oriented execution and cross-functional leadership, and will deliver business results that meet or exceed expectation for awarded programs.


Required Qualifications:

  • The individual must possess a combined 10+ years of project/program management experience along with a verifiable record of results in both disciplines within the automotive industry.
  • Strong technical background that may include knowledge of chassis and body systems & components and a high level understanding of cross-functional responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's Degree Required or equivalent (10 additional years of related technical experience in addition to experience referenced above). Technical / Engineering Degree is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a plant operations role or environment is preferred.
  • Project management certification preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Development & management oversight of program plant launch team, including following an OP(Operational Plan) defining goals & objectives and KPIs and managing the team's performance & evaluations.
  • Ensure that the customer or cross-customer based team are the primary point of communication interface to the customer for the respective program(s).
  • Possesses the interpersonal skills to build relationships with key customer contacts responsible for the decision making process.
  • Actively listens, probes and identifies concerns. Understands customer's business and speaks their language.
  • Ensure that their team is meeting the needs of both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to travel 80+ percentage of the time(depending on home location vs. program location)
  • Build alliances with managers of other functions and through these alliances develop cross-functional business processes.
  • Responsible for leading the preparation and business cases to support engineering changes.
  • Cohesively aligns Plant Team with Global Program Manager/s, Product Engineering, and Sales by providing customer feedback on products and features as well as competitive information within their respective business unit.
  • Supports program management through complete product life cycle from concept, quoting, program award, product development, supplier selection, launch, postproduction performance & reflection (lessons learned) utilizing the MRE PMP (Program Management Process) and Pilot reporting system.
  • Preparation and communication of program launch status to Pilot Management & management steering committee with escalation of critical issues.
  • Coordinating / monitoring project documentation, timelines, technical performance, budget, production, quality deliverables, corrective action initiatives, conducting risk analyses, and implementing required countermeasures.
  • Full program launch team ownership of program-related functional activities, including sales, purchasing, product engineering, quality, manufacturing / launch management & finance.
  • Support, change management & continuous improvement, VA/VE activities, and execution of ongoing price negotiations / adjustments.
  • May require recruitment, development & management oversight of the following sub-functions and team members within Program Launch Team, including defining goals & objectives and performance evaluations:
    • Change Management Team.
      • Ensure that system is being utilized for all customer, internal, and supplier driven permanent changes and temporary deviation requests, cost improvement proposals, and quoting and release requests for programs.
    • Cost Engineering Team.
      • Support cost modeling & analysis of supplier b/ds for Purchasing & PM's.
    • Program Planning & Capability Development Manager.
    • Total Cost VAVE Program Manager.
  • Develops credibility, loyalty, trust and commitment.
  • Support Director of Pilot Program Management, Executive Vice President, various Functional Directors, and other functions on as requested basis.
  • Supports and adheres to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system (TS 16949).
  • Maintains working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
