Based at our remote location in Nunavut, the regular shift for this position is 4 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation, with 12-hour workdays. Transportation is provided to site from Edmonton.
The Breakfast cook reports to Chef and is responsible for ensuring freshness, quality, consistency and variety of breakfast is served on time to clients. You are responsible for preparing and cooking breakfast as per requirements. Also, ensuring all meals are prepared and served on time to the highest of standards of the company.
This position is safety sensitive and requires drug, alcohol, and fit to work testing as a condition of employment.
Working Conditions:
- Remote camp environment with extended periods away from home (4 weeks on/2 weeks off)
- Extreme weather conditions are common in Nunavut
- Extended periods of darkness/no sunshine this time of year
Your work will include:
- Prepare breakfast menu as approved by Chef.
- Prepare a fruit bar for breakfast as stated in the fruit for breakfast list.
- Prepare breakfast sandwiches with bacon, ham, or sausage and egg
- Cook eggs to order as requested by client.
- Prepare vegetables and any meats for an omelet bar.
- Have breakfast specials. E.g. Blueberry pancakes, Eggs Benedict, Waffles', crepes, etc.
- Prepare RTE Containers from left over products for the lunchroom
- Set up and take down steam table.
- Assist with the clean-up including garbage and floors in kitchen.
- Clean and sanitize all work areas including work surfaces and equipment.
- Assist with putting away groceries.
- Maintain a clean and organized cooler and stock area.
- Provide professional, courteous guest service at all times
- Check and document temperatures of coolers and freezers.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Chef
- Cook breakfast items from scratch as required
- Mix and cook pancakes
- Prepare all breakfast ingredients
- Breakfast items such as sausages & bacon
- Ensure breakfast menu and quantity are prepared as per Chef requirements
- Serve at the breakfast line and provide highest level of customer service
- Responsible for overall food presentation and portioning
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of dining room and overall kitchen
- Ensure health and safety regulations and quality standards are maintained including dating all items
Qualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Previous experience providing a hot breakfast service in high volumes is required
- Current Food Safe certificate is required
- Large-scale cooking experience in camp settings, banquet halls and/or hotels is a strong asset
- Red Seal or other certifications is an asset
- Experience in accurately producing weekly inventories
- Experience with producing baked goods (scratch baking and/or pre-fab items) is an asset
- Previous supervisory experience is an asset
- A team-player who is committed to providing client satisfaction
- Must have valid government issued photo ID for travel to site
- Be able to handle the following physical demands:
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
- Climb ladders or stairs
- Stand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended lengths of time
- Perform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both hands
- Perform work with arms at full length
- Work with arms above shoulder height

Work schedule and remuneration:
Breakfast Cooks work on a rotational schedule of 4 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation. Site locations are in remote settings, requiring air travel to site. You may be required to work nights, weekdays, weekends, and general holidays. Wages are paid on an hourly basis with a starting rate of $21 per hour.
