WHAT'S THE JOB?
The Second Cook contributes to the overall success of the Culinary team. Involved in preparing the dinner menu, the Second Cook is responsible for all starch and vegetable items required for the menu. The Second Cook will work with the First Cook to ensure that all product meets quality standards as set out by Culinary leadership.
The position involves a remote work lifestyle in a camp setting with the following amenities:
- All meals and accommodations are provided
- Travel is provided to and from the site locations from designated locations in the Thunder Bay, Dryden and surrounding area
- Private room with cable television
- Access to Wi-Fi
- Access to laundry facilities and detergents
- Access to a gym and common areas
Working Conditions:
- Remote camp environment with extended periods away from home (4 weeks on/2 weeks off)
- Extreme weather conditions are common in Nunavut
- Extended periods of darkness/no sunshine this time of year
Key responsibilities include:
- Meet daily with the First Cook to discuss menu preparation and production strategy
- Assist the First Cook in the preparation of all menu items as needed
- Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications
- Can be responsible for preparing and serving hot breakfast
- Replenish desserts and condiment stations as required
- Assist in the cleanliness and maintenance of the kitchen and serving areas
- Can be responsible for assisting with baking
- Practice correct food handling guidelines and storage procedures
Qualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Large-scale cooking in camp settings, banquet halls and/or hotels is a strong asset
- Current Food Safe certification is required
- Ability to commit to a 4 week on/2 week off rotation
- A team-player who is committed to providing client satisfaction
- Must have valid government issued photo ID for travel to site
- Ability to handle the following physical demands:
- Lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 lbs
- Climb ladders or stairs
- Stand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended periods of time
- Perform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both hands
- Perform work with arms at full length
- Work with arms above shoulder height

Work schedule and remuneration:
2nd Cooks work on a rotational schedule of 4 weeks on/2 weeks off. Site location is in a remote camp setting in Nunavut. You may be required to work nights, weekdays, weekends, and general holidays. Wages are paid on an hourly basis with a starting rate of $19.00/hour
