The Juniper Tree Nursery has grown over 800 million seedlings since we were established in 1957! We are currently looking for motivated individuals to join us as Student Growers as part of ourdynamic Grow Team at Juniper Tree Nursery, located in beautiful Carleton County, New Brunswick! The Grow Team is responsible for the growth of more than 25 million seedlings per year. This is an ideal opportunity for students interested in working with a professional company that grows quality seedlings in a safe environment.

What will you have exposure to?

  • Professional growers to learn from and assist with growing 25 million seedlings per year. We are the largest tree seedling nursery in Atlantic Canada!
  • Five different species grown in three different container sizes.

  • State-of-the-Art facilities and equipment including automated transplanting machines and a retractable roof greenhouse system.
  • Working in a team environment and performing a variety of activities to produce high quality seedlings for our reforestation program.
  • Learning the phases of conifer seedling development and the associated cultural practices we use to manage seedling growth.
  • All Phases of Growing Seedlings - planning, seeding, transplanting, Argus environmental system, crop culture, growth monitoring, and risk management.

Terms of Employment:

  • Summer 2025
  • 45 hours/week

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Crop IPM monitoring - scout crops to check for insect activity, disease, and weed outbreaks.
  • Performing seedling morphological measurements (height / diameter) to monitor seedling growth.
  • Assisting Growers with crop mapping and inventory control.
  • Misting greenhouse crops, as directed by the Growers and ensure all greenhouses are operating as per the computer settings, and report deviations to the Growers.
  • Inspecting and recording the moisture content of seedlings in all greenhouses and outside holding areas.
  • Irrigating and fertilizing seedlings.
  • General crop maintenance activities such as weeding.
  • Other daily general nursery work, as directed by the Senior Grower.
  • Working some weekend days and holidays.
  • Being part of an after-hours on-call rotation to respond to greenhouse alarms.
  • Includes going to nursery when temperatures drop to freezing, activating the outdoor irrigation system, and monitoring the irrigation until temperatures rise above freezing.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in Horticulture, Greenhouse/Nursery Management, Plant Science, Agriculture, Forestry or Science degree/diploma.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional, hardworking team player with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to stand for lengthy periods of time, walking, working in varying temperature environments.
  • Class 5 Driver's License
