Requirements:

The technician will work with the Aquatic Science team to collect data during the field season. This may include watershed monitoring, biodiversity monitoring in the local marine protected area, use of passive acoustic monitoring to record marine mammals, and more. Students also have the opportunity to learn about and train on topics and skills that interest them.

Primary Duties:

  • Assistance with field work, incl. carrying equipment, recording data, collecting samples, handling fish, etc. May take place in remote areas and sometimes requires boating or ATV access, sampling in adverse weather conditions, walking for extended periods of time, flexible hours, etc.
  • Data management including recording in the field and inputting in excel. Sample management incl. labelling, storage, sending, receiving
  • Independent research
  • Assistance in proper use, maintenance, storage of field equipment
  • Other duties e.g. taking photos, assistance with drone exercises, indoor farming, etc.

A candidate (student) must:

  • Be a resident of New Brunswick (must have lived in New Brunswick for at least 6 months) or a First Nation community in New Brunswick;
  • Be eligible to work in Canada (must have a valid SIN number);
  • NOT be an immediate family member (spouse, children, parent, brother or sister) of the employer;
  • Be a high school student entering grade 10, 11, or 12 in September 2024; OR
  • Be a full-time Grade 12, university or college student in the current academic year of 2023-2024 AND attending a post-secondary institution full-time in the fall of 2024.
