The City of Mississauga's Legal Services Division is a full-service law department that handles a wide variety of interesting and rewarding files that directly impact the way people live, work and play in Mississauga.

The Legal Services Division of the City of Mississauga is seeking two (2) second year law students for contract positions during the summer of 2025, beginning mid-May and concluding mid-August (3 months). Our hybrid work model allows employees to work from home up to 2 days per week.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidates will report to the Deputy Director, Legal Services and work with our Articling Students and other members of the Legal Services Division. The Summer Students will work on files in the following practice areas: municipal law, public procurement and commercial law, real estate, leasing, expropriations, environmental, construction law, intellectual property, planning & development law, civil litigation, labour & employment law, and Provincial Offences Act prosecutions.

The Summer Students will participate in the following:

(a) Legal Research and case summaries.
(b) Contract development and review;
(c) Review of Bylaws;
(d) Prepare litigation related documents;
(e) Benchmarking / Comparative Analysis
(f) Template review
(g) Assist Prosecutors with various duties
(h) Participate in special projects and initiatives
(i) Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

The two (2) Summer Students will possess the following skills and qualifications:

• You are required to be a law student (LL.B. or J.D.) in good standing with an Ontario law school who will have completed their 2nd year of law school in 2025 and entering the Law Society of Ontario's lawyer licensing process Articling/LPP/IPC program in 2026-2027.
• strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others;
• strong legal research skills and comfortable using digital and online reference materials and tools (i.e. Canlii, Lexis Quicklaw and Westlaw).
• excellent writing skills and the ability to draft clear, concise and persuasive memoranda and other legal documents;
• strong organization and time-management skills and the proven ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work;
• ability to attend, arrive on time, and travel between various City of Mississauga sites and court houses.
