Job Summary & Key Responsibilities This nursing elective introduces major concepts associated with addiction nursing practice. It provides a foundation for students pursuing careers in addiction-related care. Within a primary healthcare perspective, students critique models and theories of addiction, consider the interplay between social, gender, cultural environments and addictions and become knowledgeable of a variety of treatment approaches. Universal, selective, and prevention activities at an individual, family and community level are explored.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position This 3-credit course is offered online asynchronously.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Development of teaching and learning activities related to course-specific topics that align with current trends in healthcare practices
  • Review and revise all course materials and assessments to align with current educational pedagogies that include universal design of learning and active learning strategies.
  • Introduce current and relevant trends in oncology health care practices.
  • Hold weekly virtual office hours and follow up with students as necessary
  • Liaise with the Associate Directors, Undergraduate Studies Academic and Student Affairs for initial instruction, orientation and as needed.
  • Delivery, assessment, evaluation, and co-ordination of the course using the Brightspace Learning Management System
  • Participation in semester meetings and course discussions within the program
  • Develop and administer course evaluations, incl. assessments and exams
  • Submission of grades

Candidates must hold a graduate nursing degree (PhD preferred), or related field, plus have relevant teaching experience and clinical expertise in the area of addictions nursing.
Experience with teaching in an online environment is an asset. All lecturers hired to teach online will be supported by Dalhousie to develop and deliver their courses from the Centre for Learning and Teaching ([email protected]) and Academic Technology Services ([email protected]). Salary Range/Pay Rate As per CUPE Collective Agreement
