We are seeking a responsible and safety-focused Residential or Recycling Collection Truck Driver to operate side-load and/or rear-load waste collection trucks and related equipment. This position plays a critical role in our waste and recycling operations by ensuring timely, safe, and professional collection of materials from residential areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate collection trucks and ancillary equipment on designated residential/recycling routes.

  • Load solid waste, yard waste, and recyclables into collection vehicle using proper lifting techniques.

  • Safely operate truck mechanisms to compact materials and maintain proper load balance.

  • Conduct thorough pre- and post-trip inspections and document findings.

  • Maintain accurate route documentation including logs, reports, and service records.

  • Immediately report vehicle mechanical issues to supervisor or mechanic.

  • Monitor and maintain route efficiency and quality standards.

  • Follow all safety protocols, company procedures, and relevant federal, state/provincial, and local regulations.

  • Ensure vehicle cleanliness inside and out.

  • Identify and tag prohibited waste materials; safely remove from collection.

  • Supervise assigned helper(s) when applicable.

  • Wear required personal protective equipment at all times.

  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude when interacting with the public.

  • Assist with inventory of containers, carts, and spare parts; notify supervisor of restocking needs.

  • Attend all required safety and operational meetings.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.

  • Minimum of one (1) year commercial driving experience OR certificate from an accredited CDL training school.

  • Must meet company standards for safety-sensitive duties.

  • Proven ability to drive and operate collection equipment safely.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with truck operations, components, and basic maintenance.

  • Skilled at maneuvering in tight spaces and reversing over long distances using mirrors.

  • Recognize and properly handle unacceptable waste.

  • Strong communication skills with customers and team members.

  • Ability to read and interpret maps, instructions, and documentation.

  • Physically fit and capable of lifting up to 50 lbs repetitively.

  • Able to coordinate physical movement across multiple limbs and operate equipment effectively.

  • Flexible and open to continuous improvement and route changes.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • Frequent sitting (up to 75%), standing, walking, climbing, bending, and kneeling.

  • Capable of lifting/moving up to 100 lbs occasionally.

  • Visual acuity including depth perception and peripheral vision critical to vehicle operation.

  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions and handle mental stress from environmental exposure.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent exposure to loud noises, weather extremes, dust, fumes, and mechanical vibrations.

  • Routinely work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Exposure to hazardous materials may occur.

  • Work is typically performed away from the main facility throughout the shift.

  • Must be comfortable working around traffic and in high-stress environments.
