Team Overview:
The Director, Financing role is an integral part of the Corporate Lending Canada (CLC) program at EDC. The Director, CLC is responsible for people leadership, overall strategic direction, and operations for a team that manages a portfolio of corporate loan assets. Corporate Lending encompasses various forms of balance sheet, M&A and asset-backed lending, including bilateral and syndicated loans.
The Director's role is to provide strategic and operational leadership for underwriting & portfolio management activities and coach the team in achieving operational excellence while delivering impactful solutions to customers. Working closely with his/her counterparts in Business Development and together with other Corporate Lending Directors, the Director, CLC contributes to the overall strategic direction and success of the Corporate Lending Canada Business.
What you will be doing:
- Provides leadership to a Team of Corporate Lending financial professionals; role models key EDC leadership principles, focused on developing a culture of performance, empowerment, achievement and team framework across CLC.
- Oversees the delivery of corporate financing solutions that support the specific product and service needs of large, strategic corporate customers within the assigned sector/geographic responsibilities. Provides guidance on complex transaction issues and ensures compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Collaboratively works with colleagues in other functional areas to ensure that underwriting expertise and market intelligence are reflected in corporate strategy. Supports the execution of corporate strategy through a focused corporate representation plan and the maintenance of key external relationships.
- Ensures excellence in credit underwriting including the appropriate balance between risk and return. Responsible for the active management of assets in the portfolio. Reviews and authorizes transactions and asset management activities with appropriate use of Delegation of Authority.
- Actively engages with clients as relevant and supports the Business Development in their efforts. Is considered an industry/sector expert and as such influences organizational strategies.
- Responsible for people leadership of the team, which includes leading performance management and skill/career development of teams to ensure the required capacity and capability to meet organizational needs as well as professional growth of team members.
- As a visible change leader, champions initiatives which foster continuous improvements in the Corporate Lending business, as well as furthers other relevant EDC priorities.
What we are looking for:
- Completed an Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or in a related field (Graduate degree preferred).
- Minimum 10 years' experience in credit granting, including 5-10 years of experience in a corporate lending environment.
- Advanced knowledge of structuring/restructuring in corporate lending and/or loan portfolio management.
- Understanding of capital markets, key decision-making considerations for borrowers, etc.
- Knowledge of general business practices, international business issues and economics.
- Minimum of 4 years leadership and people management skills to be able to effectively communicate, influence, delegate, coach and motivate.
- Bilingual in both official languages.
