Job Summary

Mental Health Support Counsellor works to make a difference in the lives of children, youth, and families that are affected by some form of violence, abuse, mental illness or serious mental health concerns. The counsellor provides assessment, treatment planning and implementation for children and youth under the age of 19. Services will also be offered to the parents/guardians of children/youth as well as community members in the form of psycho-educational presentations. Services provided will also include educational family and group work. Close collaborations with other health and support services will be built and maintained in efforts to provide comprehensive service delivery.

Qualifications & Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in Clinical Counselling, a Health and Human Services related field
At least 2 years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, & experience.
Working knowledge of DSM 5
Must have an ability to assess social, psychological, emotional, and/or behavioural issues in children and youth
Must be sensitive to & respectful of cultural differences, differences in socio-economic status & lifestyle diversity
Must have knowledge of group process and facilitation techniques
Knowledge of relevant socio-historical events relevant to Indigenous culture
Must have a demonstrated ability to work effectively with teams, coordinating multifaceted service & treatment plans
Intermediate Computer Skills (moderate understanding of operating systems, word processing, graphics, spreadsheets, Case Management Databases)

Required:
Valid class 5 driver's license & satisfactory drivers abstract
Criminal Record Check clearance
This position requires union membership
