THE POSITION
The principal and customary work of an employee in this class of employment consists in providing technical assistance to the various departments of the school board by conducting research, preparing drawings and specifications and collecting and supplying basic data to professionals and to those responsible for the various departments or in being responsible for the functioning of equipment associated with building systems.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze construction and space planning needs in the civil engineering field, considering usage constraints and established standards.
- Conduct site visits, research, and consultations, and prepare plans and specifications for architects and engineers to use as a basis for their work.
- Ensure that construction projects adhere to specifications, regulations, and municipal standards, and make recommendations or propose modifications as needed.
- Develop architectural, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, or other plans, along with appropriate estimates for submission and construction purposes.
- Create standard plans for specific spaces such as laboratories and cafeterias, and perform calculations for surface areas, volumes, and material quantities for estimation and cost verification purposes.
- Monitor project progress, prepare progress reports, and manage payments and schedules.
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, inspection, and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and control systems in building mechanics.
- Perform calibration, adjustment, modification, and programming of pneumatic and electronic controls as necessary.
- Coordinate technical work for preventive maintenance of mechanical systems, conduct regular inspections and operational tests, and oversee repairs and replacements as required.
- Propose energy conservation programs, implement approved programs, and maintain inventories of mechanical services and spare parts.
- Train and coordinate less experienced technicians and support staff in technical operations, and perform related tasks as required.
- Hold a Diploma of College Studies in Building Systems Technology or a diploma or an attestation of studies recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
