The Controller will serve as a trusted advisor with strong financial acumen and attention to detail, support in overseeing the day-to-day financial operations and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and tax requirements. The Controller will produce accurate and timely financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, and identify and mitigate financial risks. They will drive operational improvements and efficiency within the finance department. Collaborating with the Director of Finance and management teams, the Controller will effectively communicate financial performance and insights to support strategic decision-making. This role includes developing and mentoring a finance team of five members while demonstrating and modeling the company's core values of communication, respect, teamwork, accountability, and innovation in all interactions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Fundamental Job Responsibilities):
Financial Operations Management
Support the day-to-day activities of the accounting department, including unique transactions, financial reporting, and balance sheet management.
Oversee management and control of inventory held in multiple locations.
Provide accounting oversight in payroll processes.
Assist in the management and forecasting of fixed assets.
Financial Reporting and Compliance
Ensure adherence to and enforcement of accounting policies, methods, and principles in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and relevant legislation.
Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial information.
Conduct internal audits to verify accuracy, compliance, and process integrity.
Review year-end packages and coordinate with external auditors.
Systems and Process Optimization
Streamline systems and processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency and initiating corrective actions when necessary.
Oversee software selection, implementation, and migration processes to enhance operational effectiveness.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Collaborate with Director of Finance to provide financial insights that inform strategic decision-making.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Business administration or commerce degree is required. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is a must.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a managerial/ supervisory role. Specific experience in the manufacturing or building supplies sector is preferred. Prior major public accounting firm experience is an asset.
Systems and Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, ERP (Business Central), Reporting tools (Solver) and experience with UKG Pro is an asset.
