The Manager of Medical Affairs, is currently seeking a part-time Dental Hygienist. The purpose of the position is to provide dental hygiene services to inpatients at Waypoint.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Specific dental hygiene services including the provision of preventative oral hygiene services such as scaling, root planning, impression taking, placement of pit/fissure sealants, polishing, and application of topical fluoride and oral hygiene instruction.
Observing the needs of the patients in preparation for and during dental hygiene procedures; preliminary examinations of the oral cavity and surrounding structures for patients including history, periodontal examination, and recording of the clinical findings.
Provision of a program of preventative oral hygiene education for both the in-patient/out-patient population and direct care staff.
Maintenance of hygienic conditions in the dental work area including infection control measures, including preparing equipment for processing/sterilization; maintenance of infection control tracking processes; monitoring inventory of dental office supplies (as they pertain to specific dental hygiene practices), completing requisitions for orders, ordering and receiving supplies.
Visiting units to assess patient's oral hygiene problems and educational needs; evaluating the urgency of patient's dental needs and scheduling necessary emergency appointments when either visiting the individual units or responding to telephone calls from staff.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Current licensure and member in good standing of the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO)
Knowledge of all current registered dental hygiene practices and procedures as mandated by the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario
Knowledge of dental program services, policies and procedures and relevant parts of federal and provincial legislation.
Knowledge of psychiatric illness and various symptoms in order to better understand and manage patient behaviour while receiving dental care.
Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills
Proven written/verbal communication and facilitation skills
Proven ability to adapt readily to change
Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values, and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude
Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills
