About the Opportunity

ContainerWest currently has an exciting opportunity for a Shop Floor Supervisor to join our team in Richmond, B.C on a full-time basis, from 7:00am-3:30pm Monday-Friday.

This role works directly with senior leadership, and is responsible for managing shop floor operations to enhance quality and productivity. You will ensure proper quality control and accurate positioning, coach team members on best practices, provide necessary tools, set clear targets, and measure progress. Additionally, you will support engineering designers by translating drawings when necessary, and overseeing the cutting, welding, design, fabrication, and delivery of complex custom container projects.

While no two days will ever be alike in this fast-paced role, some of your key responsibilities will include:

Opening and closing the shop daily
Acting as a coach and leader, being visible and accessible on the shop floor
Collaborating with the scheduler to create and post the next day's work plan
Reviewing job estimates and holding kick-off meetings with designers
Ensuring labor budgets are visible at each workstation and managing deviations
Conducting quality checks and hold point sign-offs with engineering
Providing drawing and design feedback to designers
Ensuring proper tool maintenance and managing tool availability
Training staff to meet delivery schedules and quality requirements
Implementing company discipline policies in collaboration with the President
Delegating tasks based on employees' skills and strengths
Supporting and motivating employees to perform at a high level
Leading critical tasks and assisting with material requisition and rush orders
Ensuring safety and environmental compliance
Managing purchasing and tooling to avoid overstock and panic orders
About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will need experience in industrial construction, and at least 5 years of related experience ideally working with steel, buildings, or steel fabrication.

The following skills and experience would be highly regarded:

Previous leadership experience
Machinist, welding, or millwright background
Journeyperson status within any trade
Engineering degree or experience
Experience with production or manufacturing
Ability to read technical specifications and drawings, and how to execute them
