Description: Under the general supervision of the Manager, Benefits & Pensions, the incumbent provides services related to the administration of benefits /payroll. The main responsibilities of the Benefits & Pensions Accounting Administrator include: processing pensions and benefits coverage for employees on a leave of absence; cheque deposits, reporting, accounting and financial activities related to processing transactions in HRIS, reconciling, recording, auditing and analysis; coordinating the medical plans budget transfers; assisting and guiding Divisional HR Offices on processing appropriate benefit data in HRIS; administer Group RRSP for CUPE 3902 Unit 3 and 6 enrolments investigating issues and discrepancies and providing information and advice on benefits accounting and benefits coverage, enrolment, policies and practices. The incumbent acts as a liaison to Central Payroll and service providers; and regularly analysing and monitoring various funds and accounts.

Qualifications Required:

Education: Post-secondary education preferred in Payroll Administration. Canadian Payroll Association – Payroll Fundamentals – Level I and Level II, or Canadian Payroll Association – Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) an asset. Relevant training and experience would be considered in evaluating candidates who do not have post-secondary education.

Experience: 3-4 years related Payroll experience preferably in a large and decentralized organization; a broad general knowledge of Payroll related policies, practices and procedures and related legislation or an acceptable equivalent in education and experience. Experience working in a customer service or reception area an asset.

Skills: Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills, excellent keyboarding skills; proficient computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet applications, working knowledge of University Administrative Management Systems - HRIS and FIS, an asset. Strong customer service skills.

Other: Ability to exercise judgment in prioritizing and time managing work and dealing with clients, ability to balance the competing demands of day-to-day work and the ability to manage conflicting deadlines with the special requirements of testing and projects. Must have analytical experience, be accurate with figures, well organized and have the ability to exercise sound judgment in decision making. Demonstrated ability to deal with people tactfully and effectively. Ability to remain collected under stress. Proven ability to make effective decisions. Meticulous attention to detail is mandatory. Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing required. An individual who works well alone and also values a team environment is required. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
