Futurpreneur is a national non-profit organization that empowers young, diverse entrepreneurs, ages 18-39 to start, buy or grow their businesses in Canada, by providing loans with mentorship and resources.

Here's the opportunity: Business Development Manager

The Business Development Manager will represent Futurpreneur and promote its financing and mentoring programs for diverse young entrepreneurs across Atlantic Canada. You will have a self-starter mindset and the lived experience to recruit, qualify and support young black or indigenous entrepreneurs and volunteer mentors interested in our programs in their registration process with Futurpreneur. At the same time, you will maintain and develop strong partnerships with our partners in the ecosystem, to recruit new young entrepreneurs and mentors, through them, across Atlantic Canada.

This is a 14-month contract position, full time, located in Halifax, NS or any city in Nova Scotia.

The incumbent will work in a hybrid model, with the opportunity to establish a presence for Futurpreneur in a co-working or shared office space. The role requires frequent travel within the region Atlantic Canada.

What you will do:

Business Development and Customer service - Entrepreneurs

  • Encourage the conversion of our entrepreneurial prospects to Futurpreneur program for young black or indigenous entrepreneurs or any appropriate programs
  • Identify and ensure a rigorous follow-up on high-potential prospects via our customer relationship management system
  • Identify the best visibility opportunities to reach young black or indigenous entrepreneurs
  • Facilitate presentations and workshops to promote Futurpreneur Canada programs and raise awareness of entrepreneurial skills
  • Work in collaboration with Client Relationship managers to ensure a satisfying client experience for candidates in our programs
  • Attend and coordinate events as needed that offer opportunities to meet with and engage start-up entrepreneurs
  • Assist other programs and regions, as and when required

Business Development and Customer service – Mentors

  • Attend and coordinate events that provide the opportunity to engage primarily but not only with prospective black or indigenous mentors
  • Recruit volunteer mentors interested in our mentoring program in their registration process with Futurpreneur
  • Work collaboratively with specialists, client relationships to foster quality mentor-mentee pairings
  • Coordinate events as required that offer the opportunity to recruit new volunteer mentors

Business Development – Strategic Partners & Referral Partners

  • Facilitate partner onboarding; train new and retrain existing partners and ensure they are fully aware of Futurpreneur processes
  • Connect with strategic partners on a regular basis to keep top of mind, ensure Futurpreneur program understanding and maintain relationships
  • Manage relationship with referral partners, as well as grow the number of partners if and where appropriate
  • Be in regular contact and maintain warm relationships with Futurpreneur's partners to ensure an irreproachable volume and quality of referencing
  • Ensure a rigorous follow-up with partners to make sure they have all the tools and information they need to represent us well with their customers
  • Participate as required in the activities of partners in the ecosystem to recruit young black or indigenous entrepreneurs in search of financing and mentorship
  • Coordinate events that offer the opportunity to engage Futurpreneur partners, as required

Requirements

What you will have:

  • Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle (40% of this role includes local and provincial travel)
  • Relevant experience may include education with a focus on business administration, economic development, entrepreneurship or equivalent hands-on career experience
  • 3+ years of experience in sales, start-up business development or economic development position
  • Strong network and sense of purpose, entrepreneurial mentality and/or lived experience working with black or indigenous entrepreneurs and community organizations
  • Bilingualism in French & English (spoken & written) is an asset
  • Ability to design and deliver public program presentations and workshops
  • Knowledge of trends in the corporate sector, start-ups and small businesses
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence
  • Strong client orientation with the ability to work with volunteers
  • Strong ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Confident, proactive and motivated, able to work with a minimum of supervision
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Ability to develop and facilitate program presentations and workshops
  • Knowledge of trends within the entrepreneurial, startup, small business industry
  • General administration experience including budget management, report writing, etc.
  • Thorough experience in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Alignment with Futurpreneur's values and commitment to the mission/purpose of the organization
  • Be a role model for Futurpreneur's organizational culture by creating a positive impact at every touchpoint with people

Scoring assets:

  • Professional experience in coaching or consulting with entrepreneurs or startups, particularly in the revision of business plans and cash flow statements
  • Customer relationship management system is desirable
  • Event planning and execution experience
  • Management and volunteer management
  • Experience managing social media accounts (LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram)
