POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Launch Manager is primarily responsible for collaborating with various members of the Manufacturing and Engineering teams to develop and execute manufacturing readiness plans. This position will be located in MCI's Fort Garry manufacturing facility to ensure that critical contracts according to customer expectations, technology, order size and complexity are properly planned to achieve first-time quality and on-time delivery.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Technical Production Launch Manager responsibilities include:

  • Work prior to production start with BIDs, Vehicle Application Engineers, Lead Project Engineers and Customer Program Management to compile unique contract requirements and specials to communicate with downstream Manufacturing groups.
  • Participate in NDI (New Design Integration) meetings with Design Engineering
  • Conduct virtual design reviews with Manufacturing concurrent to the design process, but prior to final BOM release
  • Identify and document design errors through NFI SWATs or project issues logs for correction during the design review or NDI processes.
  • Identify and work with Engineering, QA, or suppliers to establish special processes for new designs, including but not limited to creation of Standard Work Instructions, Hot Sheets, locating jigs, build up fixtures, etc.
  • Conduct workload and assembly process reviews of installations subject to Canadian and United States splits.
  • Responsible for reviewing and providing direction to Process Planning and Manufacturing Engineering to establish routings for new installations utilizing tools such as DSC and labor assignment sheets.
  • Verify routings for existing installations meet the latest expectations from Production.
  • Facilitate launch team meetings in each assembly station during the first pilot build and post issues on traveling visibility board.
  • Aid in identifying design errors for correction through design reviews or the SWAT process during pilot and lead bus production

Managerial Production Launch Manager responsibilities include:

  • Manage and maintain a comprehensive project issues list and drive full implementation of each issue. Drive ownership of issues and hold owners accountable for completion.
  • Lead the manufacturing readiness processes (MRA or PDP). Identify, involve, and motivate cross functional members on the launch team to execute all pre-production activities.
  • Support Product Launch Managers with maintaining project plans for new design projects. Involve, and motivate cross functional members on the launch team to execute project plans.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Identify and repair systems or processes that are dysfunctional, opaque or threaten the successful completion of project timeline, quality, or budget.
  • Drive an ongoing effort to create and evolve process capability rather than inspection.
  • Act as member of the plant Leadership Team (LT).
  • Provide consistent program updates in the LT meetings.
  • Participate in Monthly Goals Reviews.
  • Participate in Change Control Board (CCB) to ensure the voice of manufacturing is considered when making design or supplier changes. (drive cut-ins, configurations, as determined during product launch process.)
  • Other duties as required.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Four-year university degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial preferred), or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • 5+ years in a Production or Automotive Design related function
  • Proficient with MS Excel, Team Center, Oracle EBS
  • MS Project, MS Access, SQL, and Power BI would be ideal qualifications.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally, work with minimal supervision, motivated to seek-out improvements, strong time management and organization skills, and ability to influence without authority.
  • Travel: Up to 33%
  1. Visits to our other companies located in Canada/USA Transit/Coach bus plants to support production launches. (Kernaghan (Winnipeg, MB), and/or Crookston, MN)
  2. Frequent support in Pembina, ND during public section builds.
  3. Visits to key customer or supplier sites.
  4. Occasional support for launch managers in other Transit/Coach bus plants.
