Quality Inspector - Substations

Reporting functionally to the Site Quality Manager / Substation Quality Supervisor. This Quality Inspector will be responsible for inspecting electrical/civil installations and effectively implementing Valard's Quality Program and Quality Management System. Confirm that all supporting quality-related documentation and processes are being followed for the Wataynikaneyap Power Transmission Project.

Requirements

Position Responsibilities:

  • Execute quality assurance and quality control activities on the project site.
  • Follow Company Quality Manual, project specific Quality Plan and Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Execute all inspection activities detailed in project Quality Plans and ITP's, as instructed by the Site Quality Manager / Substation Quality Supervisor.
  • Complete all assigned inspection tasks and documentation related to Substations, as directed by Site Quality Manager / Substation Quality Supervisor
  • Support all quality team members and ensure Valard meets the requirements of the applicable Contract, Client Standards, Provincial and Federal Regulations, and Code(s) of Construction.
  • Identifying potential construction issues.
  • Complete as-built drawings / redlines.
  • Draft, submit, and respond to various types of documents: NCRs, RFIs, Field Work Instructions.
  • Review and approve quality control records received from construction team.

Rotation:

This position is a 20-8 shift in Northern Ontario, camp accommodations.

Allocation of Time:

  • Field inspections and auditing (Field) - 75%
  • Project support and documentation review (Field Office) - 25%

Experience Requirements:

  • Preferred 3 years experience in a technical or QA/QC role in the construction industry, with minimum 1 year field-related experience.
  • Technical background with sound knowledge of Quality Management Systems and related ISO standards.
  • Background in reading and interpreting technical documents such as engineering codes, standards, specifications, construction drawings and other related documentation.
  • Experience in computers and technology with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook), BlueBeam Revu, and document control software.
  • Power systems experience (Distribution, Substation, and/or Transmission) is considered an asset.
  • Must have valid driver's license and maintain a clean driver's abstract.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of typical construction project processes such as RFIs, NCRs, Field Work Instructions, and "as-built" drawings.
  • Excellent administrative, planning, time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to be assertive in situations as required.
  • Ability to maintain traceability of a large number of complex documents electronically.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and maintain confidentiality when required.
  • Ability to be resourceful to troubleshoot and solve problems and issues as required.

Education Requirements:

  • Certification such as Journeyman Trades Person, CET, EIT, or P.Eng. is considered an asset.
  • Other courses or certificates such as an ISO Auditor Certificate or a Certificate of Quality Management are considered an asset.
