The Project Engineer will provide technical guidance to ensure each project meets engineering and operational standards. This includes preparing and reviewing engineering drawings, providing specifications, working closely with the project team and stakeholders to identify requirements. The candidate will also be supporting the Project Manager with developing scope of work, budget, and schedule. Ultimately, the Project Engineer is responsible for leading and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams in the development of technical deliverables for the various projects assigned to them.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Define, quantify, and create scope definition for the engineering deliverables of each project

• Oversee and coordinate the work of drafting, design, and all engineering for the project

• Gather the technical requirements from Operations stakeholders

• Support evaluation of business cases, particularly technical and design aspects

• Facilitate engineering and design-related requests for information

• Enforcement of stage gate control procedures, documents, workflows, work instructions

• Liaise with Procurement, Project Management, Maintenance, and Production teams

• Communicate project status and progress

• Ensure all regulatory requirements are met for projects

• Oversee and coordinate work with engineering consultants, design partners and other contractors

• Leads and/or supports with project design through basic and detailed engineering along with the construction phase of the project

• Executes projects according sustaining capital projects

• Ensures project delivery schedule and scope meets the operational objectives for the project

• Ensures health, safety and constructibility is integrated into detailed design

• Coordinates with internal technical team and 3rd party vendors to complete technical design deliverables

• Ensures that all planned work in the area is performed according to the planned timelines within budget constraints

• Responsible for coordinating resolution of design issues and changes

• Provides support for project management functions related to engineering design efforts

• Oversee the engineering consultants, contracts and internal staff through the design and construction phases

• Liaises, guides, and collaborates with the project technical team in relationship with the engineering requirements for the project

• Participates in the preparation of work scopes for tendering processes, bid reviews and evaluation of bid proposals

• Supports the development and execution of the construction schedule

• Works with the capital projects controller to meet corporate reporting and accounting guidelines

• Oversee the development of commissioning turn-over packages and final turnover of the project for commercial operation and operational acceptance

• Works with Management of Change Coordinator to manage the capital projects' impact on the operation

• Analyzes completed tasks and ensures any necessary changes are documented after task completion to ensure better efficiencies

• Provides support to other members of the engineering group

• Ensures that site is at all times in compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental regulatory and internal laws and policies

• Sets a high personal safety standard for him/herself, direct reports, and colleagues

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Industrial
  • P. Eng or E.I.T. register with APEGS
  • 3-8 years technical experience; 3-5+ years' experience in a heavy industrial process setting preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in Engineering environments and working with EPCMs and consultants
  • Experience in FEED projects is an advantage
  • Excellent communication and organization skills, ability to diligently follow-up on tasks and hold people accountable
  • Proficiency in fostering business-focused collaboration, aligning cross-functional teams and driving projects to successful completion
  • Proficient in modern office software and knowledge of technical, budgeting, and analytical software preferred.
  • Ability to analytically solve problems with a creative approach and communicate outcomes across groups
