Job Description:
The Term System Operations Engineer will report to the Manager, System Operations Engineering and Outage Scheduling. This is an 18-month term position with the potential of extension to a 24-month term position.
Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering support to the AltaLink Control Centre to support the safe, reliable, and secure operation of the power system.
- Develop solutions to real-time operational issues.
- Work closely with the Outage Scheduling team to determine the optimal time to take outages to minimize the risk to the power system.
- Support the team to perform outage studies and risk assessments on all transmission system outages.
- Coordinate with the independent system operator and other transmission facility owners to develop weekly coordination plans for outages.
- Support the team to provide windows of opportunity for outages in the maintenance scope of work.
- Provide timely and effective technical input into conceptual engineering, project scoping and execution to ensure new facilities are appropriately scoped and integrated into the existing transmission system.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or similar discipline.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or eligible to become registered with APEGA in the near future.
- Four or more years of experience with power systems analysis or operations is considered an asset.
- Experience with PSS/E or equivalent software.
- Proven ability / experience in the above noted responsibilities.
- Proficient in conducting power flow and voltage stability studies.
- Experience with Energy Management Systems (EMS) considered an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment, positively influence and motivate others, and develop strong internal and external relationships.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes.
- Creative problem solving coupled with an ability to work in a fast-paced high-pressure environment.
- Proven track record of good attendance and job performance.
