POSITION SUMMARY

Accountable for supervision, coordination, and performance of the assigned Engineering Group, personally and through a group of designers & drafters. The engineering design manager ensures the completion and accuracy of assigned tasks at all phases, from the design stage to its implementation to production—reports directly to the Chief Engineering Manager – Production Engineering.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Lead, guide, and mentor the assigned Engineering team employees to ensure completion of assigned tasks to New Flyer organization standards.
  • Review task and project assignments and balance workload between team members to meet task schedule deadlines.
  • Prepare data and create reports on team status, including completed and outstanding work.
  • Interpret customer specifications, technical summaries, vendor quotations and other contract documents to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Participate in hiring, training, and developing new employees. Monitor employee performance and recommend or initiate personnel action. Analyze and resolve work problems (employees' personal and work-related, etc.).
  • Provide engineering support to Production, Quality Assurance, Customer Service Support, and other departments as required.
  • Interact with vendors and customers on design-related issues. Ensure that new installations or applications have documented vendor approval where applicable.
  • Approve Engineering Documents, Instructions to Service, Shop Floor Instructions, and other documents as authorized.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.or Electrical/Mechanical technologist.
  • Manufacturing heavy-duty equipment experience.
  • AutoCAD, Unigraphics NX4 experience.
  • Leadership skills and abilities.
  • Electrical/mechanical design experience.
  • Ability to train/mentor employees.
  • It is important to be a well-organized individual who is flexible and able to prioritize tasks for a team while meeting the organization's demands.

Travel 10% or less.
