Job description

We are looking for an experienced individual to join the Java Group of Companies as a Survey Crew Chief.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform all surveys (including GPS, total Station, and Leveling) in accordance with industry standards
  • Ensure yourself and survey assistant adheres to all safety procedures and requirements.
  • Work as directed by Project Manager

Knowledge, Competencies, Abilities:

Must have knowledge of all survey activities and related survey requirements. Must be capable of supervising a crew, keeping accurate, comprehensive, and neat notes and effectively communicate with the Project Manager and survey assistant. Construction survey and powerline construction survey is an asset.

Main Duties

  • Manage and perform field survey work
  • Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field survey work, to review and manage project timeline requirements, priorities, and survey methodology.
  • Act as a company representative, liaising directly with client field representatives and landowners.
  • Prepare and communicate field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in required formats for Project Managers and Drafting personnel.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Survey Assistants working with you.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, more efficient field processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology.
  • Actively participate in and proactively support safety
  • Some office technical survey work may be required in this position; and
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

Requirements

Required Skills, Experience, & Behaviours

  • Our successful candidate will be a graduate of a recognized post-secondary program related to surveying and geomatics or have an equivalent amount of related experience;
  • Strong working knowledge of survey equipment and software such as GPS and Total Stations (Including Robotic);
  • Knowledge and experience of Trimble equipment and software, laser scanning and line locating would be considered an asset;
  • Strong problem-solving skills in a field environment.
  • Well organized, adaptable, attentive to detail, hard-working and dedicated.
  • Self-motivated and able to contribute to a fast-paced team environment
  • Drone experience and capable of flying drones is an asset. LiDAR experience (mobile or aerial LiDAR) is an asset.

Certifications:

  • Valid Drivers License
  • First Aid
  • H2S Alive
  • ATV/ UTV Operator Training

Experience:

  • surveying: 1 year (preferred)
