Tooling Supervisor - 1-Year Contract (Potential for Extension)

POSITION SUMMARY

This is a 1-year contract position with the possibility of extension, contingent on business needs. The Tooling Supervisor will oversee and coordinate tool fabrication activities within a unionized environment, ensuring that all work is completed efficiently, safely, and within budget.

In this role, you will provide direction to employees, enforce company policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with MCI's health, safety, and environmental protocols. You will also act as a key communication link between the fabrication team and senior management, working to meet objectives and achieve business goals.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Directs department activities and ensures all production tools fabricated meet production environment standards. Implements improvements within the department as required for maximum efficiency.
  • Ensures work meets quality standards.
  • Monitors department budget compliance and project capital compliance.
  • Directs and assigns work to tooling associates and ensures employees have the training, skills, and authorization to perform tasks. Manages employee performance to maximize effectiveness as set against overall labor efficiency (OLE).
  • Ensures that employees perform work safely, equipment is maintained, and processes are carried out in compliance with Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures. Takes proactive measures to address HSE issues. When required, leads investigations, and enforces compliance.
  • Provides guidance to employees on work requirements and expectations. Ensures employees perform effectively and comply with various company policies, procedures and practices including, Plant Rules, Plant Health & Safety Rules, Attendance, Human Rights, and others as applicable. Addresses any employee compliance or performance issues through MCI's corrective action process.
  • Ensures compliance with terms of Collective Bargaining Agreement. Responds to and addresses employee labor relations matters as appropriate.
  • Maintains and enforces department standards of neatness, order and cleanliness to meet 5S targets. Carries out other projects or initiatives aimed at advancing MCI's business effectiveness. Any other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible to ensure all key controls (ICFR Internal Controls) identified under their area of responsibility are designed and operating as outlined in the internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Ensure policies and processes are established and followed to ensure goals and objectives for all regulatory and legal requirements are met including organizational quality, environmental, health & safety programs.
  • Provides a progressive, interactive, innovative and collaborative work environment to maximize our ability to work as a team and make the organization more competitive and effective.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Leadership & Experience: 3-5 years of leadership experience in a tool fabrication environment, preferably within the transportation, automotive, or bus industry.
  • Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with mills, drills, lathes, and welding, including training and troubleshooting. Experience in developing jigs and fixtures for high-production processes and industrial environments.
  • Safety & Compliance: Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe working environment, with a focus on adhering to industry safety standards.
  • Education: A background in a technical or vocational field is preferred. A Machining Red Seal certification would be an asset.
  • Work Environment: Previous experience in a unionized environment is advantageous. Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer work, attending meetings, or on phone calls. Ability to stand for extended periods while supervising tooling associates."
