Position Overview
The Director, Human Resources (HR) is responsible for the overall operations of the HR Department and its associated programs and functions in support of corporate goals and objectives. This will be accomplished by strategically planning and evaluating HR programs and overseeing the development and implementation of company policies and procedures.
The Director, HR, shall also engage the organization in achieving its business and people objectives, as well as timely policy interpretation and subsequent actions to ensure that best practices are in place from a Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Relations & Development, HR Governance & Compliance, Health and Safety and Employee Relations perspective.
This role will work with a cross-section of departments, regions, and businesses across the organizations platform to develop, lead and execute the strategic initiatives in a fashion that is consistent with values.
The Director, Human Resources has significant responsibility, influence, and importance. Many or the responsibilities will be strategic, yet many will be tactical in nature based on the needs of the organization at the time.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and development of the company's HR strategies and procedures.
- Promote continuous corporate improvement, including personal and organizational goals to develop leadership capacity.
- Manage and develop HR staff; determine workload; delegate assignments; monitor and evaluate employee performance; etc.
- Facilitate workgroups, teams, and meetings within a positive environment.
- Provide direction to all levels of management & employees for HR related issues.
- Ensure that all relevant policies, procedures, practices, processes, and systems meet corporate and comply with applicable legislation
- Oversee the hiring, orientation, performance management, employee engagement, and possible terminations of all employees
- Direct talent acquisition practices and procedures
- Manage and support Succession Planning activities.
- Oversee development and coordination of Compensation strategies.
- Guide the development & maintenance of Health & Safety Strategies
- Direct training & development activities to ensure workforce flexibility and skills improvement.
- Monitor HR-related documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and relevance to business processes.
- Represent the organization in lawsuits, grievances, and complaints.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Canadian & US federal/state/provincial/municipal laws, regulations, rules, standards, and guidelines.
- Support HR related M&A initiatives and requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, HR, or related discipline
- Minimum of 10+ years experience as an HR generalist in a multi-disciplined environment
- Minimum 5 years senior leadership experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment as a senior HR professional
- Bilingual (English & French) is preferred.
- Certified Human Resources Professional designation
- Experience with applicable laws in Canada and US, in various jurisdictions
- Strong knowledge of current employment law matters, with a strong commitment to diversity management
- Proven track record of success in staff management, benefits administration, recruitment, training, and employee relations
- Effective communication with individuals at all levels of the organization
- Superb writing and content development skills
- Strong presentation skills
- Ability to identify developmental needs of employees and to provide coaching, mentoring, and other help
- Excellent time management and project management skills
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
- High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts
- Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to staff privacy
- Knowledge of principles, theories, and techniques related to employee relations, personnel management, and recruitment
- Experience with HR systems
- Proficiency with MS Office programs
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed.
- Must be willing to travel. Valid passport required for travel to US as required.
