Maritime Electric Company, Limited is seeking candidates for the position of:
Grid Operations and Planning Engineer
Reporting to the Director, Production and Energy Control Operations, the Grid Operations and Planning Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to the Energy Control Centre (ECC) operations as well as project management capabilities for the construction, operation and maintenance of Maritime Electric's standby power generation equipment and vehicle fleet.
- Prepare written weekly Energy Supply Reports to help highlight for the Department periods of high electrical loads, or transmission constraints when generating capacity supply is going to be tight.
- Prepare load forecast/transmission limitation models for weekly Energy Supply Reports.
- Perform Load Flows using PSS/E software and liaise with Maritime Electric's Electrical Engineering Department to help ECC Operators understand operational constraints in real time and for upcoming planned outages.
- Prepare Short Term Operating Procedures (if necessary) to communicate limitations to Transmission Users on PEI and the mainland during periods of constraint.
- Work with the IT Department to update the Open Access Transmission Tariff website with current information.
- Coordinate with Tech Services regarding changes/updates to SCADA screens including implementation of "SCADA Smarts" capability.
- Prepare NPCC winter & summer assessment reports.
- Prepare 5-year Energy Supply Budget cost models in Microsoft Excel and run sensitivity analyses of different energy supply scenarios.
- Assume ECC Supervisor duties while supervisor is on vacation or out of the office.
- Provide engineering and technical expertise, contract administration, and project management for the Production Department to ensure the completion of capital projects on time, with a high level of quality, and within budget.
- Coordinate and supervise projects, prepare cost estimates, prepare project specifications and contracts, complete designs, and write reports.
- Provide engineering, technical, and administrative support to the Production and Energy Control Operations Department in preparing various internal and external reports.
- Provide technical and administrative support to the Production Department to prepare capital budget submissions for Maritime Electric's Regulator (i.e. prepare cost estimates, obtain field data, prepare justification reports, and prepare text for capital budget applications, and interrogatory responses).
- Assist with generating equipment inspections and overhauls.
- Provide engineering support and conduct research support to prepare options for MECL to consider on an on-going basis for the Company's future generating capacity and energy requirements.
- Assist in the planning, environmental permitting, and on-site supervision of potential new dispatchable generating capacity project(s).
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Electrical Engineering Technologists, Mechanical Engineering, or Sustainable Design Engineering disciplines may also be considered. Must be eligible for registration with Engineers PEI. Experience in electric power generation, or electrical transmission and distribution will be considered an asset. A minimum of two years related experience working as an P. Eng or EIT is a requirement, a minimum of five years of related experience is considered ideal.
This position offers a competitive and comprehensive compensation and benefits package. The pay range for this position is between $74,000 and $99,000 per annum.
